Such a great visit with my daughter this past week.
My daughter and I had some quality time together this past week. She spontaneously decided that she wanted to come to visit for several days, and I was ecstatic!
After all, family is an essential enjoyment to me. She is a gem.
When she was around 9 yrs. old, she was riding a horse with her Dad and twin sister, when all of a sudden, the horse took off fast back toward home and my daughter held on for dear life, but fell off and was trampled by the horse. She was rushed to the hospital unconsciously. When she got there, they airlifted her to a trauma hospital.
The doctors said that it was a good thing that she had a helmet on. Even though it was only hanging together by thin fibers after the accident, it had saved her life.

She was in a coma when I arrived and remained there for two weeks. Some of those days were a medically induced coma to allow her brain to heal. She had sheared her corpus callosum, which is a band of nerves that join the left and right hemispheres.
It was touch and go for many days, and we weren't sure that she would make it. Her sisters were devastated, and her Dad and I (we were divorced) were torn apart. It was a challenging time for our family.
As the weeks and months went by, she slowly recovered from a broken leg, a traumatic brain injury, and some issues with obsessive compulsiveness. She returned to school four months after the accident, starting with shortened days.
Life continued after the horrible accident, and she was making significant progress. She grew into a beautiful young woman, as you can see. She graduated with honors from college and is a kind and cheerful person with a career in early childhood special education intervention. I couldn't be prouder.
Life is never guaranteed to any of us. We must live each day grateful for what we have and learn to be present for our loved ones.
I would love to hear from any of you about your families. What are the most special memories you have? What does family mean to you?
Thanks for stopping by,
Erlene
