One Good Turn

He left home on a cold Saturday through blizzard and sleet. There were announcements on the radio, TV and other media platforms.

Because he didn't have on any device he was not aware of the looming danger that awaited him.

He was always meticulous and particular in everything he planned to do, but this Saturday morning he threw caution to the wind and went against everything he was accustomed: for everything is conspiring against him in ways he couldn't have forseen.

He Was Lost

He was not a man used to being lost, he was stuck in a traffic jam for almost five mind - numbing hours, when the traffic started inching along he had taken a wrong turn and ended in a street with a burst main.

It had been raining steadily and unforgivingly while he kept asking himself where am I. It appears as though he was in one of worse part of the city, the street somehow seemed to be on a lower level than the rest of the town.

The rain left the cobbles slick and greasy. He had to drive cautiously, as the street was teeming with people haphazedly crossing or standing in little groups.

He was overwhelmed

Timidly he tried alighting the vehicle, he accidentally touched a bespectcled guy with his car door. His unexpected presence startled the stranger, he was furious raising a finger at him - devoid of manners. He was smoking and the stench that emanated from his mouth was disgusting, as he got out of his car an argument ensued when he saw the damage the stranger did to his car. The Honda driver started yelling at him:

"You stupid twat what you think you're doing, look what you've done".

Mr. Martin tried to say something that was nonconfrontational to calm the guy - but instead horror took over when he saw a base ball bat in the guy's hand. Mr. Martin took a neutral stance and a neutral expression, he lifted his hand to brakes the lash but before he realize what was going on he was knocked unconscious.

Authorities were summoned

He was out for a few minutes, when he came through he was surprised to find himself sprawled out on the street. Bewildered and wondering what's going on and why am I here. He tried unsuccessfully to struggle to his feetbut he only managed to get to a kneeling position as if in prayer, unfortunately he blacked out a second time for a few seconds.

When he came through there were a couple of police officers on the scene, one of the officers was hunkered down beside him. He was saying; "Take it easy sir", the other one was calling the ambulance.

It was the first time in his life he had ever been in an ambulance.

Taken to the hospital

One of the police officer asked a bystander "Are you going to ride with him in the ambulance?"

The officer thought he was a good friend of the injure man, he said, "No problem"as he dutifully climbed aboard the ambulance and casually said "Do unto others as you would like them do unto you".

"My Good samaritan", he said to the female paramedic, nodding to his companion "Saved my life".

"Really" the paramedic said.

Mr. Martin was wrapped in a large white cotton blanket like a baby. Mr. Martin struggled to remove his arm from the blanket to extend it to his good samaritan Mr. Brably.

On reaching the facility they were met at the door by medical personel, Mr. Bradly, his good samaritan, remained with him. Mr. Martin, when he arrived at the hospital was lucid. He had a fierce looking bump on his fore head as if an egg was buried beneath his skin.

His daughter was concerned

Angelina, his daughter was sitting in the living room having a cup of coffee. While watching TV, what she saw caught he attention at once. She jumped up,"Is that my dad, what is he doing in the hospital and how did he get there", she exclaimed. She dressed and proceeded to the hospital, anxiously she approached the receptionist and asked, "Is there one Mr. Martin here"? "Yes, and who are you to him?"

"I'm his daughter".

"His room is fifteen just across the hall".

Angelina hustled across the hall to her father's room. When Angelina entered her father's room he was in a joyous mood, upon seeing her; he said:

"Come in honey and meet Mr. Bradly, he saved my life".

Mr. Bradly with an out stretched hand, "Such an honour to meet you".

"Likewise", Angelina replied.

Angelina,"Daddy why did you leave the house without telling anyone?"

Mr. Martin, "Please don't misunderstand, I just wanted to go for a drive".

"Daddy, you must understand, when you're leaving the house you must say, if no one is home please a note".

"Point taken"

To be discharged

Angelina began packing Mr. Martin's stuff while the nurse prepared the discharge papers to be signed. Everything completed Mr. Martin said goodbye to the friends he had made. The orderly brought the wheel chair, he sat and was ready to go. As they proceed down the hall he saw a familiar figure lying on a trolly, he cried out stop, stop, is that Mr. Bradly?

They pulled up abreast him and asked "what's the matter?"

He said,"Just as was leaving I had a naucous feeling and I collapsed".

"Did anyone attend to you"

"Not as yet".

Mr. Martin came off his wheel chair and summoned a doctor to Mr. Bradly immediately, he was incensed.

After the doctor's examination, it was diagnosed he had a mild cardiac arrest.

Mr. Martin's selflessness was very commendable.

Concerned

He remained with Mr. Bradly until he was settled in bed, given his medication in order for him sleep. His first few days were crucial so Mr. Martin visited Mr. Bradly every day.He didn't want to take anything for granted, too often we take situations for granted and we are being heartbroken with the outcome.

God dosen't want us to feel better for a few days, no he is in the long term restoration business. he wants us to live a life with an abundance of joy and happiness.

My story is one good turn. We see when Mr. Martin got injured, Mr. Bradly was there to accompany him to the hospital. Then Mr. Bradly got sick, Mr. Martin was there to support and encourage him. We see in our community we see each other helping and giving back to the community.

I love this song;

If I can help some one as I pass along,

If i can help somebody with a word or song,

If I can show somebody they're going wrong,

Then my living will not be in vain.
