How to have a blog roll on every page using Wordpress

Hi all,

So I spent hours trying to work out how to do this, in the end I contacted another member who I know had managed it & he helped me, I'm not sure if he or anyone had produced a blog to explain it but I thought I would just to help anyone else & save them the hassle that I encountered.

At the moment you type a post & it just appears on your home page, all your other pages are just normal pages but you want other pages to have a blog roll on, just like your home page correct?

Ok so you need to add categories. Go to Posts > Categories, here you add new categories (the name of the category will be the text that will appear on your navigation menu) you can change the name at any time so don't worry. Then click "add new category.

Then go to Appearance > Menus, click on categories select the ones you want to appear on your navigation menu then press "Add to Menu" You will have to delete any duplicate pages which you may have already produced. You will see that within the menu structure it will show you whether certain titles are "pages" or "categories"

Then Save Menu

So now whenever you produce a post & select a category for that post in will appear on the relevant page.

Done!

I hope I have managed to explain that so that it makes sense.

Big thankyou to Derek from http://pajamasandtie.com/ for helping me finally get that little problem sorted. Top bloke

Richard

Absolutely brilliant post. I'm so glad I found it as I was just on my way to site support. There are so many people who need this information and can't find it

Keep it up

Richard, Thank you. I had started my new site, wanted my homepage static, but realized I needed to put my posts into categories for it to read as envisioned. Made a mess trying on my own to fix it. Because of you, I am back on track. Thank you!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've spent hours trying to figure it out. Some of the blogs I read was not identifying the problem so I'm glad I found yours. It worked.

Thank you, this works!

Read one of your Blogs and visited your site, I am following you.
Thanks for the inspiration!

OMG! I have been searching for several hours and days trying to find out how to do this. Thank you so much for this blog post!!!

Oh my, I think this is exactly what I was trying to find. How do you get a picture beside each of the blogs on the blog roll? Mine just shows grey cubes.

It didn't work for me. I had already tried it too. The category shows up on the main menu and to the right, under categories. On the right I get the page I want, off of the main menu I get a "blank" page. I need to link them somehow? How do you get rid of the categories menu, or rename it, in the code?

can u show me somehow cronkito ? I'm afraid i got lost a little in your explanation

I would like my menus to mimic the ones on the pajamatie site, or yours.

I'll try. Here is my main page.

If you click accessories and tools on the top menu, it takes you to a blank page. If you scroll down to the categories menu the same title is there. It is the same page, but under that menu it takes you to the blog roll that I would like you to see from the top menu.

Got the top menu figured out. Somehow I had a page with the same name as the category. When you clicked the top menu it went to the page...which was empty. I guess I can't jump when my legs are crossed.

OMG...I have been trying to figure this out all morning. THANK YOU so much for posting this. Back to work on restructuring my website once again!!!
