Advice from The Newbie
Today I decided to sit down and figure out how far I have gotten with Wealthy Affiliate. I tried for about three hours to find my website on the internet. I tried to find it on Google, Yahoo, Bing, even Time Warner. No luck! However, I was determined to figure out what and where I had gone wrong. When I found out what the problem was, I was embarrassed and devastated, and almost defeated by my own stupidity.
So, from the beginning. I joined Wealthy Affiliate in January. I fell in love with community support right away and decided it was for me. I designed my site and chose my niche. Which is to promote Wealthy Affiliate. No it's not original, but I figured as good a place as any to start.
I have added three post, a second page, placed banners, gotten feedback a couple of times and fixed errors that they pointed out to me. I felt like I was doing great, like I was getting somewhere with this. Even though I haven't made any money and couldn't find my website using the domain name I bought. I was still not discouraged. I was still determined.
But today I wanted to figure out why I couldn't find myself. And I did..... This is where I felt utterly stupid. After three hours of bouncing back and forth from Site Manager and Google or whatever search engine I was trying to find myself on, IT HIT ME!
Since I was excited about how quickly I was learning. And I tend to jump ahead and think "I GOT THIS". In my infinite rookie wisdom, I misspelled my domain name when I bought it. I felt like a complete dumb ass.
Now for devastated stage.... I sent a help request with Site support. How can I correct my misspelled domain name? Guess what... You can't.... Totally devastated that I'm going to look so ridiculous now. What the hell am I going to do???
Almost defeated..... Site support let me know that I would have to purchase another domain. Sounds way worse than it was! Yes it was going to cost me another $13.99 but I did it to myself for not double checking my spelling. That was literally the worst part of it.
Since my motto is "Find the good in every bad situation", this is what I have.
I now know how to purchase, set up and link web sites. Something I could never have done before Wealthy Affiliate. I have mastered Site support and I'm very comfortable in Site Rubix almost all together. I bought, set up and linked my new site with the old one in five minutes! I'm super proud of myself. And I feel confident enough to let all of you laugh at my mistake.
I misspelled the word Affiliate! Here I'm promoting something and telling everyone I know about my site and what it's about. And I screwed up the freaking domain name! It was supposed to be elsaffiliatelearning, it ended up, elsaffliliatelearning....
So I'm now the proud owner of elainesaffiliatejourney.com. And my advice is double and triple check your spelling when you pick your domain name!
I'm still determined to make this work! Wish me luck and I wish you all the same.

You have a wonderful attitude. A winners mindset and you will grow and succeed in anything with that attitude. Weldone
You're attitude is winning, Elaine, thus, you will succeed with your tenacity.
It's funny. I did that, too. Luckily, I caught the misspell in @30 seconds, so I called and the tech guy who fixed it at no extra cost.
Plan 'B' is to credit your account for the incorrect purchase and buy the correct one. This way you're not out the money. They're very good about this, especially, if it's a new purchase and you're a new customer.
Kudos!
Thanks for th post I myself have done some really unusual mistakes so think I will post more of them so others can see there is always a solution and someone to help,
Hey Elaine, allow me to be part of the "Complete Dumb Ass" (as you put it so elegantly...lol) movement. Yes, been there, done that. I think this post is good for anyone to understand mistakes happen and it's not the end of the world. Thanks for the courage to share.
I'm not sure about courage, but I truly believe in owning my mistakes. I also believe that we learn more from making mistakes. So now I slow down and try to avoid anything costly. Thank you for the comment. And feel free to leave me advice anytime.
I hope some new people read and double check their work before they make such a simple mistake. Thank you for your comment.
Hello Elaine, thank you for your honest blog post. This is a very easy mistake to make, as Hennie mentioned below, I have also made many more expensive mistakes than yours! I'm glad you found out what the issue was and at least you are learning new things.
Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you. I am learning so much here. I am still on the nervous side. But I know I can do this. Best wishes to you!
Hi, Elaine.
Nothing to be embarrassed about. I made bigger mistakes than that. It also cost me way more than $13.99.
Please don't ever call yourself stupid again. I bestow on you blessings (not luck). Keep to the training and work diligently. If you work with passion and focused, success will look after itself.
Hennie
A great comment Hennie, I hear you, big time on both the above paragraphs!
Enjoy your weekend Hennie.

Good for you to just consider that a part of the learning process. You turned the lemon into lemonade! Keep up the good work.
