Your Wordpress Admin Slow? Do this!
It has happened to me twice. Suddenly, basically overnight, your Wordpress Admin is slow as snail - every step you do, takes the whole eternity.
And I have heard that there are other WA members who have complained about it. So I put it down for those who might need it in the future.
But first, just to give you a glimpse of it (and how frustrating it is), I took my stopwatch and measured some of my navigating movements:
- From Posts to Pages: 17.20 seconds
- From Pages to Plugins: 18.66 seconds
- From Plugins to Dashboard: 15:17 seconds
- etc., etc.
How can you work like that?
When it first happened, WA customer support took a look at it and moved my site to another server. The problem was probably somewhere there (I don't really know). By the way, I want to thank WA customer service here - They have always been very kind to me and fast to respond and help.
The second time, though, they could not find the problem. This time Kyle helped me out, telling that the problem is probably connected with the "Pretty Link" Wordpress plugin (in fact, one of its recent updates).
And I remember there was a new update for the Pretty Link recently.
So I thought that maybe I need to get rid of that plugin... Anyway, I wanted to test it in the first place - whether my admin area speeds up again after removing the plugin or not.
But before I could do that, I discovered, there was another update available for the Pretty Link. And the miracle happened right before my eyes... after updating the plugin, it was suddenly sorted! Wow!
My WP admin area works like a clockwork again. Very impressive!
So here's my conclusion - one of those Pretty Link updates caused the ugly anomaly.
So if it ever should happen to you - that you have a slow Wordpress dashboard - test this plugin first. And if it does not help, test other plugins too (remove them one by one, and see what happens). Because Kyle wrote me that the problem is definitely connected with plugins.
Finally, as you might guess, because I could sort it out, I am pretty happy ... and I am saved of a big chunk of frustration today :)

Interesting but I think you will find it is the traffic at the time you are using - sometimes I cannot work because of heavy traffic and other times is perfect - I have had problems about ten times in the past year but it always gets sorted

At least I have never experienced that my wordpress admin is slow because of traffic.

And also, my problem was consistent. It began in the middle of last week and continued non-stop until today. It only stopped after I updated the Pretty Link plugin.
