I was dreading writing about this chapter wondering how could sex be connected with the business of accumulating wealth. And I don't mean using sex to generate money.

This chapter talks about the TRANSMUTATION of sex being critical in the pursuit of our money making goals.

Let me summarize what I learned from this chapter. Remember that it was written when society existed in a largely male dominated world. This is changing, but there are ways still to go.

Sexual feelings are the most powerful feelings any human can have. And those who created hugely successful enterprises had the capability of transmuting the powerful desires into high performing creative ability. When the sex drive is removed, the creative drive also suffers. Mr. Hill said this also applied to women.

Pierce De Resistance!

The following paragraph crystallized the fundamental message of this chapter:

"The emotion of sex is an irresistible force, against which there can be no such opposition as an 'immovable body'. When driven by this emotion, men become gifted with a super power for action. Understand this truth, and you will catch the significance of the statement that sex transmutation contains the secret of creative ability."

I found the following statement rang true: "The men who have accumulated great fortunes and achieved outstanding recognition in literature, art, industry, architecture and the professions, were motivated by the influence of a woman."

Mr. Hill also states that "Man's greatest motivating force is his desire to please women." Hence, this also gives women the power to make or break a man.

Would you say that the same could be said of successful women? That conclusion may be debatable. But the point is that the power of the creative mind was transmutated from a strong sexual nature.

This whole section on the interplay of men and women is fascinating reading.

A Burning Question

What does this all mean? That the same drive we have behind sexual pursuits must be raised in the pursuit of the goals we set out to accumulate wealth. And the corollary is if that sex drive is lacking, then it makes it much harder to muster that level of drive crucial to achieving our goals.

Many examples are given. As well as a cautionary tale that this same sex drive can be transmuted towards evil or negative pursuits too. And that we need to be mindful of this and take the high road instead.

This chapter gives a lot of food for thought and debate. Please dive in and share your thoughts.

We will be coming to the end of this book study in 4 weeks. But the project will live on through this link:

Think and Grow Rich - It Could Be Worth A Million Dollars To You!

Cheers!

What I learned from this chapter and my take on it :
Let us look at this quote;"The men who have accumulated great fortunes and achieved outstanding recognition in literature, art, industry, architecture and the professions, were motivated by the influence of a woman."
The idiom "Behind every great man is a great woman" comes to mind. The woman in question usually is a wife or a mother; the observation is that no man gets to be "great" in a vacuum, and some woman, somewhere, had a hand in the man's success.
When we look at history; trans mutating his sexual drive into creative ability explains man's greatest motivating force: his desire to please women (read conquer women).
Men were defined as hunters, providing for the family, while the women nurtured the offspring.
In nowadays society, where both partners have to go to work to make ends meet each month ,this kind of stereotype is no longer clear, also due the rise of feminism.
Is this a good thing? That's maybe food for another discussion and not at WA,lol

Good comments on this post. As one other person also said, I am a senior female who lives alone. I am wondering if perhaps that fact helps me with my focus. My sexual energy has noplace to go except to someplace I assign it, so I do believe it is what helps me hold my focus on my business and its problems.

I wish Mr. Hill could come back and rewrite some of his book from a woman's perspective. I do believe that is is sometimes easier for us to transmute sexual energy than it would be for a man.

I've been trying to restimulate my imagination, and perhaps this very energy is helping me. Something is helping!

I think what he means by sex transmutation is what people today call "being in the flow". When you can take all that higher level energy and direct it towards one focus, you can accomplish miracles or genius.

When I was studying mathematics it sometimes took 4 or 5 pages of calculations to end with a result. My attention would be so highly focused that time would stand still. I wouldn't hear any outside sounds or activities around me. All my energy was focused on the problem at hand. I saw the beauty in the order and the outside world became quiet.

The same thing would happen when I was drawing or designing something in stained glass. Time would cease to exist because of the intense focus. That is what I think he means by sex transmutation. Taking your highest form of energy and focusing it on a specific result. That's when you get the results that make you wonder where they came from. This focus takes your vibration up to the level where the ideas become apparent. Your vibration is matching the vibration of the ideas. Like resonance.

When we take time every day to sit quietly and meditate on what we want to achieve, what we want to give and have, the answers come. But we have to take the time to do this. In this chapter he talked about many successful men who meditated for a period every day. They were tapping into this higher vibration and tuning in to the ideas.

These results are available to everyone but you have to quiet your senses enough to reach outside yourself. Nicola Tesla said he never married because his total focus needed to be on his work. He transmuted his highest form of energy into his focus and concentration, and genius was the result.

Tesla believed Bach and Mozart entrained your brain's vibration to higher levels. Monks chanting also was said to carry this uplifting vibration. The vibration is why music can affect a person so much and in so many different ways. But only certain music has this ability. I read somewhere that most of the music in the western part of the world carries an element of chaos in the vibration. I wonder if this is true.

There are several other important areas in this chapter but I'll be writing my own book if I keep going on and on. Anyways, another great chapter.

Hi Veronica,

I commend you on your superb analysis on Chapter Xl. You brought up great analogies of sex transmutation on the use of focused power.

Your personal experiences carried a lot of power indeed. Thanks for sharing your inspiring thoughts.

Edwin

Wow Veronica! Great thoughts. Maybe you should be writing your own book!
Barbara

Barbara you always make the nicest comments! Thank you! I always like to read your thoughts on the chapters as well.
Veronica

Thank you! But it is true. You are a great writer and I enjoy reading your posts very much.

Great reply.

This chapter has an interesting review of the power of sexual desire and attraction and how both can be used for genius! Who knew? I think the key sentence in this chapter is; “The (sexual) energy must be transmuted from desire for physical contact, into some other form of desire and action, before it will lift one to the status of genius”.

The limitation of the chapter is the absence of the sexual drive in women. I realize that the book was written almost 100 years ago, so I can give it a pass on that account. I actually believe we women have an ability to use that 6th sense as well, if not better, than men. Hill says the 6th sense is creative imagination, which equals genius.

So how does this apply to me? I am a single senior woman. I believe this chapter is helpful because Hill does state through willpower one can encourage/discourage emotion. He states the mind is a creature of habit and it thrives upon the dominating thought fed to it.

He lists 10 stimuli of the mind, with sexual expression being the top. But there are other stimuli that we can use to get our minds working; working to create thoughts that were unimagined before. I like that he included music. I almost always have classical music playing as I work.

Further, he states we can control our mind through persistence and habit. I agree. And we can change our thoughts that way. And then our emotions follow. This is the secret of the autosuggestion, where we persist in a habit of saying our affirmation so that our thoughts become thoughts of desire and success.

This chapter has motivated me to use the list of stimuli to continue onward in my goal to Think and Grow Rich.

Thanks Edwin, for your continued commitment to this group.

Hi Barbara,

Your observation about the lack of this topic from the female perspective is spot on. This shows how far society has progressed as far as gender equality. But we also know that there is still a gap in many areas, especially in politics and corporate America.

There was only one area where Mr. Hill directly addressed women and I want to know if you noticed it.

"Sex alteration takes out of the male, whether man or beast, all the fight that was in him. Sex alteration of the female has the same effect."

I felt that this was such an after thought and in a negative connotation. I am sure if he wrote this book today, he would apply the same lessons to women as men.

I loved your summary and the key sentence you used in this report. Thank you also for continuing to persevere with this study.

Not long to go. When it is done, I know this will have benefited me too.

All the best to you.

Edwin

Yes, I noted that statement. I just kind of skimmed over that. I was thinking how it related to animals; like dogs and cats. Or in Bible times when they talk about eunuchs. Otherwise, I don't have any experience with that and I wondered how it related to the topic.
Thanks again for your dedication.
Barbara
