I don't agree with some WA thoughts

Hey everyone,

I want to thank everyone for supporting me on everything but I'm afraid I do have some concerns. I either do not understand or disagree with some WA thoughts. I've already posted 36 blog posts and shared them on twitter, facebook, pinterest, and google +. I've made $0. There is a chance that my focus is not going to be affiliate marketing.

I am getting the impression that quantity is all that matters as I remember talking with people claiming that:

"It takes time for your blog to grow"

"You need to post about 5 times a day"

"There is no such thing as wrong niche and you don't need to be an expert in your niche"

I do not see why that should matter due to several reasons.

  • Where is the evidence to that? My blog has been online since december 2013. I could still be blogging for 2 years and not make money. It would feel to me as just a way to keep me spending money on WA training or worse just wasting my time. I came for passive income streams not active zero income streams.
  • We are told to create quality content not quantity content. Why is Google not seeing that? I am feeling that there are technical SEO issues that need to be solved or need to promote the posts
  • I find that still hard to believe.

Hi Daniel,

I am not very far from you in terms of achievement at WA. I understand the frustrations that comes with learning while growing a business, an income at the same time. Bills are not stopping while we keep blogging and hoping our website will soon foot the bill.

I know we are getting there one day. And you have done just the right thing - ask for help, ask for opinion, ask for guidance. Carson can certainly guide you to get over this rough patch. Cheers!

What you need to be doing is using long tail keyword phrases and I've just learned that.

How are you searching your keywords and are you also checking the competition?

Hi Annick, I am using the WA keyword tool. Mainly aim for a minimum of 100 searches, any traffic, less than 300 competition. Not sure about what long tail keyword phrases are

i heard long tail keywords are the money maker searches for people considering to buy

Hello Daniel. I see that Carson has responded and I'm sure he will be able to steer you in the right direction.

I can make a few suggestions after taking a look at your website:

1. Create more internal links within your site
2. Consider using Pretty Link Lite for referral links
3. Time to use a graphic or logo for your site title - tagline
4. Remove published spam comments
5. Add your gravatar/image to the comments section
6. Use the Read More link on your Blogroll - it's too long now
7. Remove the uncategorized link in the sidebar
8. Consider using a more compelling call to action - a Buy Now
or Get It Now graphic button
9. Menu Labels - see below

Instead of Hostelworld etc. how about an unclickable menu label such as "Accommodation Bookings" with a submenu "HostelWorld" You don't need to show "8 reasons....etc" in the menu label.

Similarly, instead of "Best For Surfboards For Beginners" - the menu lael could be Surfboards for Beginners.

Your site is young - six months. Plus, an authority site typically has 100+ pages, so having lots of quality content that helps your visitor with value-added information is essential for rankings.

Hi Daniel

Is good to provide your website url to Carson for advice. I been here for a year. I just see some amazon commission and WA commission not much.

Before able to make money, we need traffic to our site first. And further more English is not my first language and I struggle a lot but I still manage to get some encouraging comment from my visitors.

If I can come this far you can do better. And we are already master a skill that can survive in raining days "website building". My local friend pay about $300 for learning WordPress for a single day. Only for 1 theme.

And another $700 to $800 on learning SEO. We are lucky to be here learning so much for so little cost.

Oh I do not understand I have not been here as long as you and I have not been posting 5 times a day more like twice, but I am building traffic and minor sums, I see Carson is offering to look at your site which would be helpful he might uncover something, I do hope it can be worked out for I do feel that there is money there to be made its just getting that winning formula, hope you do not give up on it

Hi Daniel,

You have lots of help available here at WA and I'm glad that you are reaching out and wondering why your blog isn't ranking.

I will be more than happy to help out and have a look at your site.

To generate revenue you need to get rankings in Google and the other main search engines. You need visitors, and you need to be able to connect with the my offering helpful info.

A website doesn't rank because of volume of posts, it ranks because the content is relevant, unique, and helpful. It helps if your content is thorough and engaging.

If you would like to share your website URL I'll be more than happy to provide my feedback.

Cheers,

Carson
