Yes, you can simply export your current website content and then import it into your new domain that you own. The steps are:
1 - Buy a domain name of your choice
2 - Point it to WA servers following these instructions:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wa-hosting-setting-up-your-domain-dns
3 - Install a new Website using WordPress Express on the new domain that you just purchased.
4 - After the installation has taken place you will have two sites. a) your new one, and b) your old free one.
5 - On the free website under the settings menu you can "Export" your site
6 - On the new site under the settings menu you can then "Import" your site content using the file that you just exported.
This shouldn't take you too long although it's a bit of a manual process. There is good news though. We are working on a system that will do this for you with the click of a button. Although I do not have an exact time frame of when this will be ready, we are hoping it will be in the very near furutre.
Hope this helps.

Wow, Carson that sounds good that you guys are working on a system here to do that. I have a couple of free siterubix sites that I do want to buy the domain for now that I know they are at least getting some traffic. But, how would that affect the articles that are going to the free site now? Wouldn't that just no longer exist as a siterubix URL. Or would that also go to the new domain?
When we release this new system to switch from free to paid sites we will automatically take care of all the redirects for you in a way that your new website will get all the traffic from your free website and you will maintain your rankings. :-)
That is pretty cool, I am building a free siterubix one right now which is starting to rank on the first few pages of google, i will therefore want to switch it to a real domain at some point but was worried about losing rankings. Is there any ETA on when you will introduce the new system? (I know sometimes it is hard for you to predict)
ah "the very near future" ..i've got to stop asking you questions before I read the rest of your comments
All I know is that you probably need to have your nameservers point to a different address. Sounds complicated, but I believe that's a fairly common procedure. I suspect you will need help from the technical folks at WA for them to get you set up.

How do you find out the stats of your free website, whether its getting hits or not and what its ranking is on Google?
well you can find out the stats of your website by using Google analytics, you need to register (free) and submit you site, after that you will start to see stats appearing. Carson made a good training about it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/adding-google-analytics-to-wordpress
To find out the ranking you can use the jaaxy tool. Kyle blogged about it here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kyle/blog/look-im-ranked-in-google hope that answers your questions
