Niche Site Ranking From Scratch
Hello folks.
So, back in April of last year Jay Neill of 'magistudios' fame released a series of 4 wabinars on how he started a niche site from scratch and developed it over 4 weeks.
As it currently stands. his site is at #21 for his keyword - which is pretty impressive as it doesn't really have any content on it at all - a lot of the 'Loret Ipsum' spacefiller text that you see on dummy sites/themes etc.
However, I propose to see whether a free member of Wealthy Affiliate could, in that 1st 7 days, come up with a site that could be ranked and getting visitors within those 7 days. If we can get sales as well, all well and good (obviously)
Ground Rules
I can't use a website I already run - I have to use a siterubix site (because that is all the 7-dayers have access to.
I have to come up with a site within the time constraints and not have 1 prepared earlier.
I can use all the available material/training/help available within WA (tell me if I'm wrong but I think you get unfettered access in that 7 day taster).
The time is now 19:53 on January 31st 2018 - I have until Sunday 4th February to produce results - let's go!
Niche Selection
IN Jay's 1st wabinar (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...) he went through:
- Niche selection
- Website purchase
- Created some core pages
In his niche selection process Jay went down the 'Amazon Best Seller' route but didn't find a satisfactory result. He then had a look at a personal choice item but rejected that because the 1st page on Google was filled with authority sites that he would not be able to outrank easily.
He then chose 1 more item from his personal requirements and, although the figures stacked up and there were products available and he, himself said that a site could be built around this keyword; he was "not entirely satisfied with that". No further reason came forth. So he explores his personal requirements again and hits upon his niche.
So, that's where I'm going.
My dad and I are tubby, to say the least and we've decided, jointly, to lay the blame on the fact that we simply eat too much in our meals. Our plates are big and our minds tell us that we need to fill them.
So, we thought that buying new plates that are smaller would be better. However, when our Mom was alive she was very concious of 'portion control plates' - not something I've looked into, ever (I love my food!) so let's head over to Jaxxy and see what numbers come back:
portion control 4005 681 300 Poor 43
portion control plates 587 100 226 Normal 77
portion control plate 326 56 170 Great 83
portion control dish 40 7 66 Great 96
portion control dishes 96 17 113 Great 94
portion control bowl 32 6 93 Great 96
portion control bowls 96 17 150 Great 94
portion control spoon 114 20 97 Great 94
portion control spoons 72 13 55 Great 95
OK, so looking at our results as they stand let's see if I can come to a decision. We are looking for a high volume, low competition keyword to be our domain name.
Well, it's either the 'portion control plates' or 'portion control plate'
Let's look at Google results (I'm using the URL 'google.com/ncr' because I want to minimize the amount of 'skew' that Google puts on its results. (NCR (no country redirect) is a Google search parameter that tells the search engine to show results for the country specified in the URL rather than redirecting to the country from which the search is being conducted.)
The sites on page 1 are almost the same for each keyword so it's almost a 50/50 decision. If I was looking for myself I'd probably type in 'portion control plate' - so let's use that.
So, our website name is: Portion Control Plate
Right, let's go and fix up a Siterubix for that:
And done!
I chose exactly the same theme as Jay did in his video and I have also deleted the dummy post and page and I have altered the tagline and checked the permalink and I have added, but not filled, 5 pages - as per Jay's midweek video that you can watch here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...
Having done that I would like to introduce...
http://portioncontrolplate.sit...
my cash cow (hopefully) :)
We are now set for success with tomorrow's effort.
The time is now: 23.55 on 31st January - I took 2 hours out to eat and walk the dog and catch up on the evening news - otherwise I would have finished this earlier.

I am going to be excited to see your results. I think it's important to know what a free membership can offer so we can bring more people in. Eventually I believe premium is going to be truly necessary, but maybe you can prove that wrong!
Hi Dom. Very, very interesting experiment. Going to watch you closely if you are going to continue sharing - I guess you are.
I have a question to ask , but will suspense it for a little later as well.
Wish you luck!:))
Vera
I hope I've answered your question in tonight's post Vera - I should have done it earlier - didn't think to note it - apologies

What a stir you're making, this is so interesting. Maybe we should all buy your portion controlled plate, never thought of it that way.
Cheers Jae
