Information overload

I have been a member now for a couple of months. I finished the first course of the getting started training and began the boot camp. However, since then I have gotten caught up in the daily emails and questions and trainings.

I now know that there are some members blogs that I find very instructive and helpful and some others that are of no value to ME. I do not question that they have value to many others, they just do not have the meat that I seek.

It has become obvious to me at this point that I need to pick up the training again. That volume of the posts and the skipping from subject to subject have derailed my progress.

I am hoping to return to the emails in a couple of weeks but I am too distracted to continue this course of conduct any longer.

The community is so helpful and willing to share. This has created chaos and dysfunction for my learning process.

I am posting this for the benefit of members newer than me who find themselves struggling to find time for emails and training. I am moving back to training. If you can split your concentration, then I applaud you. I am unable.

I shall return.

Hi, Dusty - I find that the training is great but if you miss a step you will be in trouble later - I have done the training three times and still find I have not understood things so it is work all the time to get it right -
I wanted to throw my laptop out the window a few times believe me -
Now I get 70 emails in the morning and same in the evening and it is growing there are so many blogs but you will find out the guys who have the helpful blogs and they are the one to watch -
best regards paul

Hi Dusty, you can easily stop the email notification on your accountsettings and do the follow up on the dashboard, click all + friends or all+ referrals, and you get all blogs questions and trainings from your selection.

Hi Dusty, the way to move things forward is to concentrate on what works for you. After all we are here to build a business. The total process here at WA is very subtle. At the end of the day it is all about creating a balance, I think many of us struggle with that.
Best wishes for your journey.
Alexander

I have felt like you for a while now. It would be great if each mail title were preceded by a word to indicate the type of communication. Such as Tech, Motivational, Training or Marketing. This would help us all to focus on what matters to us as individuals. It's nice to get a a Happy Christmas or New Year greeting but 50 of them take time away from what most of us are here for.

Sorry to sound self centred but I have to focus to maximise my available time.

The Blogs can be distracting. However, they are full of "feel good", tips, and training which makes me like WA even more. My suggestion is to sort out a few people that you like to follow and/or train from and just check them out instead of trying to read and respond to everything. There is way to much at WA to read and respond to everything. I would give that a try before going "cold turkey" away from the WA Blogs. DAN

I appreciate the suggestion. I need to find a better way to sort but I may, in fact try just that. Although I must admit that it is like an addict trying to only smoke socially or cut back to just 3 days a week.

Dusty: I know exactly what you are saying. It is also hard for me to stay away from the WA emails and blogs. However, I have had to become very select in what I open on the site or I end up spending hours and hours reading and reacting. DAN

It's true there is so much to digest here it's difficult to sort out. I usually allow an hour a day for training, 2-3 hours for perfecting my site and another hour checking on conversations and blogs. I have to to put things in categories and lists or find myself flailing about in an endless sea of learning and thus over loaded. It's good you know your limitations and goals. You will achieve them. Blessings.

I read an article from a different site espousing the use of pomodoro work cycles which I intend to employ for the next 30 days. Basically the idea is to work for 25 minutes, break for 5 and repeat 3 times until an hour break.

Couldn't agree with you more Grandma. DAN

Breaks are wonderful. I wish I could remember to take them. :-)

Sounds great but life gets in the way.

Hi Dusty, I came to the same conclusion about a week ago, and I've returned to my training as well. Best of luck, Sylvie :)

See you back soon, I hope.

I agree with you. There are a lot of messages going back and forth and it is almost impossible to keep track. I try to quickly scan the messages and if they are relevant to what I need I put them in a special folder in my email. Otherwise, I just quickly scan and move on to the next. In the course of the last month, I found that that special email folder helped me because I was able to quickly track down some information that I needed. Thanks for sharing your frustration and I totally understand - I am at time in the same boat as you!

Hi, friend, how do i creat a special folder, please, need education on it to be able to have one. Thanks for your cooperation, all the best, God bless you.

I am do not know what email service you are using. I use msn.com (same as Hotmail.com and Outlook.com). You can create a folder (like inbox or sent or deleted) and move the emails that are of interest to you (in my case relevant now or perhaps in the future) I just move those email to the folder. Other services such as gmail.com, yahoo.com and others have slightly different ways of creating folders but the concept in all of them is the same. Hope this helps. Fred

a feature of my gmail as Fred says. There is a folder icon above the emails. create subfolders.

I too try to avoid the chats and forums while actually building my website or I wouldn't get anything done. I am following the training step by step - but I totally agree with you - with so much going on here it's easy to get distracted

You are straight forward, have the same problem, but trying to cope and concentrate on training. You have taken the right decision which is personal. However, it,s good to sometimes checkout the emails and see if there is any that could be of help or useful, because members do add trainings. Thanks for sharing, all the best,God bless you.

I have been sorting the emails by Blogs/trainings/questions/and teaching blogs and saving them in email folders, but even that has become time consuming.
