Amazing Aurora!
A very special night for Northern Lights watchers.
In 2016 I went all the way to Iceland to try to see the Northern Lights. Sadly it wasn't to be.
Last night was therefore very special. Northumberland in the UK is blessed with some of the darkest skies, so was ideal for viewing.
There were reports coming in of an intense Solar Storm and all indications were it was going to be good. Skies were clear. The forecasts said several pulses were heading to Earth and it was to be a direct hit!
So we waited for darkness and went outside. What we saw was absolutely awesome. The most stupendous display unfolded before us. At first, the sky just looked strange. It looked like cirrus cloud, but through a camera it took on a different dimension.
We took lots of photos (surprise, surprise). Here are a selection. My camera isn't as good as Debs', so mine are more blurry, but it still captured the colours of the display.
The sky was full, from horizon to zenith. All directions, not just the Northern one. Usually you look North, but with this display it didn't matter. The aurora was in every direction!

We had an aurora party last night with family and friends, but not much to see in the North Eastern part of the USA from our particular location, not even on smartphone images. It was a particularly overcast sky.
We still had lots of fun until about 3 AM, with plenty of food, drink, listening to David Bowie’s “Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” album, and watching the movie “Geostorm.”
Too bad the weather didn’t cooperate, but nobody hardly noticed amid the other festivities. Lol 😎

Late night! Stacy will be in bed for at least another two hours, and then we have quite a mess to clean up in the kitchen, but it was worth it, even without the aurora on display. 🌅

Never heard about JM Rum Frank, I personally prefer a nice Venezuelan Cacique 500 Gran reserva when I feel in need of a Mojito!!

I think it's rum from Puerto Ricco, Nick ?? I know she's very particular about the mint she uses in her mojitos, which she gets from our favorite organic food store.
I'd probably be a terrible bartender, nothing like my dad, who used to take great pride in stocking everything and being able to make his guests whatever they asked for!
One bottle of booze is the same as another unless it has a guitar on it, then I'd take notice! Lol 🤣

All of these photographs were taken between 10:30pm and 12:30am from the same location. We had stiff necks from looking skyward as a lot of the activity was directly overhead. It was the strongest aurora since 2003.
It was Jeff. I've never stumbled around the garden in pitch black since I was a teenager. 😏

We were actually blessed here south of Denver to also see the Northern Lights. Though not as intense as what you witnessed, we were able to see pillars and undulating colors. I've lived in Denver since 1994 and have never seen this spectacle come so far south before. So special!
That's great. What latitude are you? We are about 55 1/2 degrees North here. Denver is quite high too, so that might be different. Normally our displays are just close to the Northern horizon, but this one first showed itself overhead, then the rest of the sky joined in. 😎

We are 39 degrees north here. Our elevation is also 5900 ft.
