Speaking to an empty room
Last night I was in the process of writing my next blog post. As I was researching keywords I started to think about my (non-existant) audience. Who am I writing this post for? What are they interested in? I don't really know yet. My site is only a few weeks old, with no organic traffic. All of the views and comments are from Wealthy Affiliate. That's all good, but WA ins't the traffic I'm going for.
That's when we start to think we're talking to an empty room.
We spend hours (or days) researching, designing, and writing to put something online that may not be read by anyone. At least not for a while. And that's after spending hours (or days and weeks) building the site so have a place to put that blog post.
But we do it anyway. And maybe, someday, someone will stop as they walk by that door in the back of the room and listen to what we have to say. Hopefully they will come in a take a seat. And then maybe more will follow.
To use an already overused idiom, Rome wasn't built in a day. As I've said before, this is a marathon. Recently Ace and Rich (members here) posted a video where they were interviewed. In the interview they said that they started with a goal to blog daily (as in one post per day) for at least one year, with ZERO expectations of return or success. That's insane, and amazing.
So I have a lot of work to do. I enjoy it, but I become impatient for results sometimes.

Feeling like we are speaking to an empty room is somewhat better than actually doing that. I have ended up speaking to an empty room many times. I know the feeling you are writing about. With blogging, I think the main thing is that what we write is of great interest and importance to us. Sure, we try to write in a compelling way for others, but, in the end, our content is really part of us.
Yeah, I speak at conferences occasionally. At a recent one in June, two people showed up in a room that could hold about 30. It's pretty disheartening.
Am also feeling the same but the good thing is as we continue talking to that empty room soon a passerby will stop and listen through the window. If what we are offering is worth which I believe is, then he'll invite a friend and they will both coming in. They will too invite their friends. All we need is patience.
I saw a post earlie from someone who hadn't posted on WA for a year becasue they had been working on their site. He was posting his monthly earnings on his site & realised he hadn't posted them here.... Income for September over $4,000 not bad I'd say... So maybe you have to keep talking to that empty room until it fills up & you then get a standing ovation...

If you believe in what you're writing, the people will come! I have no doubt about that!
Keep up the great work Darrel!
