Online Broadcasting Software - Part I - Scenes

The "Scenes" column of OBS is where all the various images, videos and sounds you create are organized. Other platforms call them clips or bits. In the picture above, there is a portion of the scenes column showing and a portion of the viewing screen. The scene highlited is an image of the outside of my cabin.

I have now changed the "Scene" from "outside of cabin" to "replacement stove top" by left clicking the up arrow. These two arrows allow you to scroll through your scenes. A new scene can be added or deleted by clicking the plus or minus sign.

An editing menu opens with a right click on a highlited scene.

Download OBS to give it a try.

For a bit of practice if you have downloaded OBS:

  • Left click on the plus sign on the bottom of the Scene column.
  • Left click in the "Scene 1 " box.
  • Back space to eliminate "scene 1" and type "test".
  • Click "OK". You have just named a scene on OBS. There is nothing on the viewing screen yet so you have named nothing.
  • Now, right click on "test".
  • Scroll to "rename" in the menu that opens.
  • Left click on "rename".
  • Right click on "test ".
  • Type "new test" and hit enter. You have just renamed nothing.

All of the functions in the edit menu in scenes operate this way. Most of the edit options for scenes will only function when you have a scene set up.

In this scene, which is in the intro to a YouTube video, I have stacked a gif of money falling onto the image of the ocean and added the text on top of both. In the next post, you will see how easy it is to do that in the sources column.

Eventually, this will help you "keep on fishin'."

HI Jim,

I currently don't have a Youtube channel as I have mostly been focusing on writing posts (which takes me forever) and promoting them in Pinterest.

I do hope to get to the point where I feel like I am ready to add another challenge, but this sounds really great!

Thanks very much,

Barbara

PS. I love your cabin! Where is it located? I really enjoy the mountains and cooler climate!

Like this looks good

Thanks for sharing this, Jim. I want to start a YT channel and this would be really handy. I'll be bookmarking your series.

Susan

I was learning step by step, like in first grade!

Vasile,
