Between Your YouTube Channel and Your Website
Lots of people with lots more expertise than me have posted about the importance of social media in affiliate marketing. I thought I would write an "If I can do it, anyone can article." to encourage people to give it a try.
My wife and I began a YouTube channel about our life just for fun. Although it is still pretty rough, we have learned a lot. At some point, it dawned on me that a corresponding website would be a good idea. From our point of view, there are 5 good reasons to create a YouTube channel and a website on the same subject.
1. More detail can be provided. Adding a great deal of detail on a YouTube video makes the video longer as well as more difficult to edit. Unless a video is instructional, board, general information is more entertaining than detail.
2. A larger potential audience can be reached. I am certainly not going to comment on the fact that many older people like me prefer websites over videos. However, I believe that a broader spectrum of people is covered if a YouTube channel is linked to a website.
3. Monetization is easier. For the most part, a small image and a link in the video description are the tools for monetization on a YouTube channel. Much more detail can be given in terms of image caption, image size and image hyperlinking on a website. A hyperlink can be added in the YouTube description pointing viewers to the corresponding website.
4. Changes are easier to make. Although the title and description are easy to change at any time in YouTube, the video itself cannot be changed without republishing. Major changes can be done on the website and pointed to from the description on YouTube.
5. Content is easier to produce. Whichever medium is produced first provides a great outline for producing the other. Content for a webpage becomes a basic outline for scenes for a Youtube video. Stills from a YouTube video become images for a webpage. Both can provide captions and content for the other.
There may be other reasons for linking a YouTube channel and a website. These are the 5 that we have discovered. I find that writing is much easier than filming, but we are trying both as we "Keep on fishin'!"

I agree with your points, Jim. That is why when I start my next YT channel, I plan on it to be business focused!

Great way to look at how the two can complement each other. I have many websites, 3 youtube channels and am constantly trying to connect them. It does work and the hard part is the prioritizing of what to work on next! Always a battle for me with shiny object syndrome! Thanks! ANNE
I find that the YouTube videos are the most difficult regardless of the subject simply because I don't have a great deal of skill in video editing. Thanks for taking the time to read the post and comment.
