Making money with kindle publishing is pretty easy!

So my kindle book has been up for a little more than 2 weeks

Here's what I've earned so far:

About $15 in total. Not a bad source of income considering that it requires zero maintenance after I post it. If I make a couple of these books a month it will start to add up.

(Keep in mind that I have less than 3 hours and only $60 invested in this book.)

Here is my sale-graph:

The sales aren't terrible. In the beginning I was barely getting sales. I tweaked the book price from $0.99 to $2.99 and oddly enough I started selling more.

Blue lines mean a Kindle Unlimited user downloaded my book(no money is made)

Red lines mean somebody paid for my book(the book costs $2.99 and I get 70% royalties),

Green lines means it was downloaded for free.

As you can see, there is a giant green line shooting up at the end of the graph. Amazon has a promotional program(free of cost) where for 5 days the book will become free and it will get promoted(I'm not too sure how it's promoted, but it's promoted somehow).

Today is the first day of my book's 5-day promotion. It's 5:09PM(eastern) and 34 people have downloaded my book.

Why giving away a book for free is beneficial:

The kindle store ranks books based on reviews and downloads. I will hopefully get a few positive reviews out of this. In theory I should be seeing more consistent sales if I get good reviews and many downloads.

My Book?

I'm going to keep my book niche secret. sorry.

You don't need to write the next Harry Potter or anything. Nonfiction books are easy to get outsourced. I have no experience in outsourcing fiction or story books(yet).

Choosing a good, and unsaturated niche was very important. I am actually a #1 best seller in my category. Keep in mind that the category it's ranking in is a sub-category of a sub-category. In no way will I make millions off my book by ranking #1 in my current category. My overall goal for this book is to generate about $50-$100 a month.

My Kindle Book Creation Process:

- Find a niche

- Make a book outline

- Hire someone on oDesk to write the book

- Hire someone on Fiverr to make a cover

- Hire someone on Fiverr to leave a review(It's not against the TOS as long as you buy a non-biased review)

- Format the book for kindle(easier than it sounds)

- Post the book on kindle

- $ Profit? $

Best place to learn how to make a kindle book

I learned how to do this using only free resources. You don't need to buy any "guru" products.

Down below I left a link to the video that got me started. The guy in the video is very honest about what he's doing and explains everything very well. The only thing I'd recommend is to use Odesk instead of iWriter to outsource a book. In my experience Iwriter has crappy writers who spin content.

How long is your book, meaning how many words did you pay for?

I recently published a book on kindle for $2.99 as well.

The first day I sold 4 and made a measly $8 bucks a dollar for each month I worked on it.. I'm currently in the process of writing my second one and I'm excited to get it published at the end of the month.. It took me a lot less time to write the second one, my 1st book can be found on my site pitcheronly.com.

Cool to see someone else doing this as well.

That's awesome.
I also just published an ebook this month.
The free promotion was a quite a success (at least in my eyes) but I only had one real sale so far. :D

But I haven't really started to promote it yet, besides putting it on my site.

This is the Ann side of Dave and Ann, when are you going to tell us what your book is called? I would really like to know, even if you don't have a passion for it.

Nice to meet another Kindle ebook seller. :)
I am going to publish my first ebook soon and I am planning to use the stuff I learn here on WA to promote it.
Have you ever done that?
I think that you can get way more sales if you build a whole website around the niche of your book. Of course only if it is a niche you really like.

Before you jump into building a website around a book, it might be a good idea to release a book by itself just for market testing purposes.

Depending on how fast I get back my initial investment, I will either release a book targeting a similar topic and add it to a series with the previous book, or I could build an entire site on the niche.

Good thoughts.
Thanks.

No problem! Let me know if you have any more questions! Is your book going to be on a niche you're passionate about or just a random niche that you think is profitable?

This is my first book, so I decided to choose a topic I am passionated about. So I didn't make any research if it will be profitable. This is a risk, of course, but for my first book that's ok.
Since it is my hobby I already started creating a website about it following the course.

Oh ok. That's fine then.

I have no interest in the book I created lol. I haven't even read it yet. On Fiverr I had a guy do all of the editing and revising.

Checked out your site. I have a good feeling that archery is a fairly untapped kindle niche. Good luck!

Thanks man. Appreciate it.

Awesome....Thanks for this valuble info...One question on this step:
- Hire someone on Fiverr to leave a review(It's not against the TOS as long as you buy a non-biased review)

What is TOS?

Terms of service. You aren't aloud to buy a positive review, but if you buy an unbiased review, it's ok.

Thanks Doug. Great to have this information

No problem!

Congratulations and thank you for the link.

Very cool!

Nice, congratulations Doug:)

Great post - thanks for the share

Glad you enjoyed it :D
