Lessons from Dave Ramsey

I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan. For those who don't know who Dave Ramsey is, he's a financial expert who has his own radio show and used to have a television show on Fox Business Network. He has many sayings that he is famous for, but my favorite is "live like no one else now so later you can live like no one else." His advice when it comes to paying debt and saving for the future includes working extra hours, cutting every unnecessary expense possible, or any other method you can use to pay your debt down or any other financial goal you have.

His point is that doing these things may be unorthodox, and people in your life may not understand, but making heavy sacrifices now can set you up for having a fantastic life later. When you pay down your debt or, say, pay off your home early, you're doing things that just aren't normal in this day in age. It's considered normal to have a mountain of debt, to have a mortgage that you will have to pay for the rest of your life. That's what that saying is talking about. Live like no one else now, making sacrifices and cuts where you need to, so that one day you never have to worry about money again and you can enjoy the really important things in life.

You can use the same advice when thinking about Wealthy Affiliate. Let's face it, you're never going to get anywhere with your website working just a few minutes per day, or a few hours per week. If you're just starting out, you have to put in more work to get the results you want. You have to promote your website anywhere you can so that you can get the traffic that you need to be successful. Work on your website any chance that you get. Bring your tablet to work, and work on your site during your lunch hour. Work on your site when you're waiting at the doctor's office. Work on your website during your commute to work. That is, unless you drive to work :)

After you get established, you won't have to work as hard. Don't get me wrong, you will always have to work on your site, I'm just talking about when you're first starting out. Once people know you and you're getting the traffic you need, a lot of those people will come back. But if you're new, work, work, work on that website. This is why it's so important to pick a niche that you're passionate about. If you picked one that you don't really care about, it's going to feel like work. But if you pick something that you are passionate about, it will never feel like work.

Look at it this way, if you worked hard enough on your website for the first year or two, and you were eventually able to give up your job, do whatever you want whenever you want, travel whenever you want, wouldn't all that hard work you put in have been worth it? So when it comes to working on your website, live like no one else now so later you can live like no one else.
