Over the recent weeks, I have notice an increased number of request asking “How do you choose your first niche”, or something very similar to this.
In reading over some, I could see that most were just trying to make the best, right “first” choice for that inital niche decision they were about to make. Then I thought, is there a right choice if you haven’t dealt with such a related topic before”?
In an article entitled, “How to Find a Profitable Niche Market in 3 Easy Steps”, written by Neil Patel, he wrote, “People looking for their first niche often think they have to find something that no one else knows about. Or at least niches that other markers aren’t already competing in.”
That’s really is not the case since “there are no unknown or new niches”.
If you happen to come across a niche that you feel is new, it’s because it is new to you and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Now if you take some time and think about is, even if you came across one that is not being actively marketed, there’s likely a reason for that, no demand could be one or not making money.
So, if you really find a “new” niche out there, it mostly has little to no demand.
Therefore, while you are looking for your first niche, consider these few steps for starters:
- Identify “YOUR” interests and passions of yours.
- (This might be something that you have already done or worked with)
- Identify what problem you could solve with your niche.
- (How will this niche help to solve a known problem someone might be dealing with or provide a better offering?)
- Research “YOUR” competition.
- (Find out what others in this area is doing to address the problem and how might you stand out.)
- Determine the profitability of your chosen niche.
- (After all, one of the reason you are addressing this question is to see what, if any, profitability it has.)
