My Number 1 Way For More Website Traffic
For my first post here at WA, I wanted to share my most productive method for driving traffic to my websites. This method is tried and true and has never failed. I'm very confident that if you use this method you will see a significant increase in traffic to your website. I really wanted to provide some value to this community so here is what is working for me and has been for a long time.
My best method for getting traffic is YouTube (YT). While this is no big secret, I do have a system I use that is very successful at converting views into visitors and should save you a lot of time trying to figure out what works. It’s not really difficult but requires just a little bit of work and effort but it DOES work! Don’t skip anything. If it’s in this post then it’s important!
Step 1 - Optimize your channel's authority
This means fully setup your google plus (G+) page that is associated with your YT channel. Add images, fill out account and profile details. Do it all, it's important. Also, fully set up your channel page with header photo and channel description, your YT channel profile image will come from your G+ profile image. Add all your supplemental property links to your G+ page (I'll get into this more later).
Step 2 - Optimize your videos for success
There are few things you can do to give you an edge over your competitors - actually just doing step 1 will put you ahead of most of all your competition. This step will be separated in two parts - tips for your video content and tips for your video description.
Video Content - This part isn't really hard, just apply these tips to your video.
- Make videos that are 4-6 minutes long. This is not a time limit that is set in stone because some videos my need to be longer and that is fine. But for me, I have found the best conversions come from my videos that are 4-6 minutes long. They can be longer but they should not be any shorter than 3 minutes.
- YT/Google use watch time as a ranking factor but from my experience that time seems to relative to the length of your video. This means if you have a 4 minute video and a viewer watches for 3 minutes, that's better than a viewer watching a 7 minute video for 3 minutes. Avoid rambling on and get to your point which can counterproductive to making your video longer. To address this I will do 4 things in my videos to keep the viewer's interest and keep them there for 4+ minutes. These are:
a. Address your talking points (3-5). Use an animated slide that reveals your talking points. State and show the talking point in video and give a very short description of each point (sentence or two) verbally.
b. Give a BRIEF backstory that covers why what you are talking about is important to them and how/why that information is accurate.
c. Provide the information that came to see and cover everything you promised in step 1.
d. Call to action – for example; tell them to click a link in description to your blog, post or whatever and ask them to subscribe to your channel.
- Use your keywords in your video. Yes, speak your keywords. YT can now analyze our video’s audio and can detect keywords and relevancy. There is no hard evidence of this but it’s a tip I got about a year ago and it has been working for me. Be sure to say them in the video a couple of times. Pretty much follow the same rules as written content for keyword optimization.
That’s it, those are few things I for all my videos and it works.
Video description optimization – Simple to do, just do it right.
The very first thing in your description should be the link to your post or whatever you want them to go. This is because it will be visible without expanding the description. The very first sentence after the link should contain your keywords. Then the description should be 50 to 75 words long. While the number of words here are not extremely important, but don’t over-stuff your description with keywords, just make the description very relevant to your keywords.
Step 3. Optimize your online presence
This means, build an online presence to syndicate your content and videos to. I do this by making supplemental Web 2.0 properties for each YT channel. These are sites like Blogger, Wordpress.com, Tumblr, Facebook Page, and Twitter Account. I make a gravitar.com account and connect it to all my properties. The idea here is promote your content and videos in other places and you can automate this process once you set up your syndication network. You can use a free service called IFTTT - ifttt.com to automate the syndication process.
I’m not going into that process in detail but you just add your properties to the service and add “recipes” to automate publishing your content. You can set it up to detect when you upload a new video to your channel then it will publish that video to all your properties automatically. What works better is making a really good post with lots of good value content and embed my YT video on that post. Then use IFTTT to syndicate that post to my properties.
Finally, add all your supplemental properties to your G+ page in the about section.
Step 4 – (Optional but effective) Build backlinks to boost your video ranking
To build links and boost my videos to the top of the search results, I use a service called Social Adr - https://goo.gl/mq9LmV which is a crowd sourcing tool for bookmarks. They offer a free version of the service that works but requires some manual work and has some limitations. I personally use the paid version and it is worth every penny. I point my SocalAdr campaigns to all my videos on YT, and my associated properties and posts. This tool is very effective.
That’s it, just follow the steps in this post and you are guaranteed to get a lot more traffic to your website. Keep in mind that the more effort and time you put into everything I have outlined here the better your results will be. One thing I have learned is that shortcuts seldom work and if you are willing to do what the next person isn’t, you’ll succeed.
I also understand that people are a lot more willing to put forth effort if they know that effort will produce results. The steps I have outlined here are as close to a shortcut you’ll likely find to getting more website traffic for free. These steps don’t require a ton of effort in order to see real results but they do require effort. So take action and you will see the results.
Additionally, I’m always trying to learn new things myself. So please share and add anything you want in the comments. This only adds to the value of the WA community which is very important to everyone’s success. Thanks for reading!

This is very helpful thank you for sharing. I have bookmarked this page for future references and guides as I just started my website and busy setting it up. My niche is about traveling to Thailand and seeing that I live in Thailand I can leverage a lot through this method and guideline. Again thanks for a great blog and using the time to write it for newcomers like myself. Keep up the good work.
