Time management and motivation.
Time management is an important factor in your productivity.
It is easy to loose track of time when you are fiddling away with your site and trying to tweak it so its just right. Its good to spend a lot of time on your site but to optimize the time and achieve maximum productivity it is a good idea to set yourself a timetable.
I myself am unemployed at the moment in the real world so my websites are my full time job and I spend upwards of 12 hours a day editing them. The time flies by and I find that when I make a timetable in advance and set aside a few hours each day for specific tasks I get a lot more done.
I set myself two hours of research everyday on topics that I am either going to blog about or products that I am going to review. I then give myself an hour to draw up a rough draft of the review or blog before typing the finished version.
It is also important if you are putting in long hours to take a break every two to three hours. Not a large break just enough time to have a cup of tea and sandwich or whatever it may be.
This allows you to recuperate yourself and give your mind a chance to register all the new information.
Its hard sometimes to stay motivated especially if you have been slaving away and not seeing results. The best way to stay motivated I find is to set yourself little targets or goals. If you are just aiming for one goal like to make money, you will end up being disappointed as this goal is for the long term. When you don't see results straight away it can deflate your mood.
If you were to set yourself a little goal like to have 10 visitors today or something similar, these things are only small but they are achievable in the short term. When these little goals are being accomplished you will feel like you are making just a little bit of progress. Another important factor in motivation, for me anyway, is diet.
You need to make sure you are eating good 'Brain food' . If you can have a nourishing breakfast with plenty of nutrients for your brain and body, you will be able to stay focused for longer and your mood will stay stable.
If you eat bad foods and snack on crisps and chocolate, you will have a sugar rush and crash soon afterwards which will put you in a bad mood, you will have little energy and your motivation will be difficult to maintain.
I have been taking a diet supplement because my appetite was bad due to my years of addiction. Now that I am in recovery I am focusing on healthy lifestyle and exercise.
This keeps me in a good mood, helps me concentrate and most importantly helps me to stay motivated. If you are not getting the vitamins and minerals you need, B-vitamins included, this will mean your energy levels will not be sustainable and you won't be able to stay motivated for long.
I would recommend in that case to take a supplement such as complan. It is a powder you mix with milk and it is the equivalent of a healthy light meal with a great deal of the vitamins you require on a daily basis.
This really does help me so I thought I should share this information to anybody who struggles to stay motivated.
Take regular breaks, eat regular healthy meals and provide your brain with the nourishment needed to run a successful business.

Just a caveat about small goals
- try to set goals that are controlled by you - you can't control how many visitors will come today to your site (not getting traffic will get you down), but you can control how many words in a blog you will write today, or how many posts will you make one day.
Hope it will help!
Cheers!
I was just going to say the same thing. A goal like "I want 10 new visitors to come to my site everyday" is an outcome goal to which you don't have direct control over. A goal such as "to write 3 new articles this week" is a behavioural goal that you have control over.
You are of course right. It is hard to put in practice and make it happen consistently. But I know it is something I need to do a much better job at. Thanks for your post.

I feel that this is something we are always working on. I for one find that when I get up early have a productive morning I'm more likely to get more done through out the day. I also like to set goals each day to help push me towards being more productive.
