Rabbit Trails Prove Helpful Sometimes
Follow the Rabbit Trails? Sometimes...
I've written often about those rabbit trails that often catch my attention and cause me to lose focus.
And indeed, they do have a habit of taking my time from things I should be doing. Maybe I am researching about cinnamon. It's one of my favorite spices, so it does come up frequently on my searches.
As I look for interesting facts about cinnamon, the health benefits catch my eye. Ok, maybe that will help with the next article. But then a subtopic, a new research study paper on blood circulation problems and potential solutions, appears. It happens to integrate with my topic, albeit loosely.
Cinnamon to health issues to infrared
I read on. Wow, it looks like they are using near infrared for some similar issues. Now I leap over to another search, this one on infrared therapy treatments. Some research shows that can help with cancer in both dogs and humans.
Now, I have a dog with cancer and if I can find more help for my furkid, Fire, I'm there!
Reading on, I find myself immersed in the possibilities. I note that I will discuss it with her vet and then find more dog cancer topics.
Yes, I'm on a rabbit trail.
This one, however, has a purpose. Yes, my focus has changed. That next cinnamon article might be a day more in the making. But I have found some important information.
This time, it was not helpful to my websites. But it might make a difference to my beloved poodle.
I bring this up, not because of the connection to Fire, though. You see, I've found this same bunny path process to help with my websites.
Sometimes, while researching one topic, I follow those rabbit prints to a new and even better topic. I try to make notes to come back to that topic, then continue with the original path. Usually that works.
But there are times when I just need to complete the journey toward the new topic.
So do I suggest that you always follow the rabbit trails?
No, not always. Indeed, sometimes I find myself hopelessly lost in the deep woods of topics, rather than focusing on the one at hand. It happens.
And when that shows to be true, I have learned to hop back down that trail and re-focus.
But for those times when I am being productive on the furry-footed trail, I smile. It is such a wonderful journey when one topic yields an additional one, two, or even several additional topics.
Do you ever find that to be true? I welcome your comments about your experiences in the research jungle!

Hoppity-Hop, Diane...grin..
I tend to research to find the validity of some things.
What I find is there is a chemical reaction that occurs when combining a Tablespoon of honey, with a teaspoon of Cinnamon.
Mix together, eat the mixture, and this will make you feel better, whether it is a sore throat, or you simply do not feel well.
The cin/honey mix has worked for me every time i have used it.
Rudy
Yes, Rudy, I have used that mix, as well. I prefer using natural methods when possible. And that mix tastes great, too!
Just don't follow the wrong leprachaun. I did that once; no gold at the end of the rainbow. :)
Very true, Geoffrey. And while it's not always easy to know which ones, there is some enjoyment in the journey!
Oh, I wanted to mention that I had "Consumer Report" when I had the huge house; lots a stuff you know. :) It had good information; realistic. Even the suspension of my Buick was in there; and they were right; it's suboptimal. But, I love the car; it has everything and for $7000.00. Who can beat that Diane. I thought I'd let you know, just in case you were interested.
It is very easy to get caught going down rabbit trails especially when you are just on the internet following leads. Sometimes it can lead to some really interesting information but usually - not.
Anyway, enjoyed your post - especially about cinnamon. I take some every day!
Dave.
Those bunny trails certainly do call out to us occasionally!
It's interesting that you take cinnamon daily. I started doing that a couple of years ago, too.
All the best, my friend.
I can’t think of any specific examples, but I’ve definitely been on the bunny trail.
What I know is sometimes it’s better to go with it because when I try to get back to where I was, all I can think about is the new thing that caught my interest.
Thanks, Diane for a great post. I know I’m not alone 😊
Lynn
Many, maybe even most, of us follow those trails at times, Lynn. You are definitely not alone.
I have to either write it down on my notepad (always in front of me) or on a google doc I keep for future article ideas. That way, I can clear my mind and get back to the original topic (usually!).

I'm one of those people that believes in "signs" and often find answers that pop out at me when I least expect it. Perhaps going down the rabbit hole was exactly where you were supposed to be. I do that a lot! However, I have 3 stories to my house. I can be on the top floor, go down specifically for something, forget why I'm there, and see something that needs to be cleaned so do that, then doing that, I see something else that needs to be done, etc. This can go on for hrs then I finally go back up only to remember why I went down earlier. Rabbit holes of a different kind I suppose. LOL.
~Debbi
hahaha--I do that, too, Debbi! Maybe the two kinds are close cousins.
