Punctuation Training One is Complete!

I've been working on a few training modules but time was limited to finish and publish. As many of you know, my furkid Fire is quite ill and she is my primary concern at the moment.

Fire is resting comfortably in her doggy stroller next to me as I write. She now sports a pretty red shirt as part of her post-op healing. It's actually more like a baby's onesie.

Her surgery went exceptionally well and though she still has more surgery and treatments, I am thankful for each day we share. It's good to see her want to walk outside and seem so happy!

However, I did manage to finish the first of my punctuation training lessons today (more to come soon!) and would like to invite everyone to read through and give your opinions and comments.

You can find it at:

It's sometimes difficult to explain the English grammar system.

There are so many rules and then all the exceptions. No wonder some people hate English class!

I happen to be one of the few that loved English class but I had days I wondered about the rules, too. Over time, I have taught many writers to appreciate the punctuation rules and find them useful.

If you find some parts of the training confusing or need a little extra explanation, you may leave me a comment or send me a private email. I try to explain in detail, but realize it may not be perfect.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Dear Diane, thank you so much for the grammar rules, they are most helpful. I cut and pasted them right away into a Word Document for reference.

If I may be so bold, would it be possible to include in a future blog, tips on the use of Passive Voice and Transitional Words. I often receive errors from AIOSEO at the bottom of each of my blog pages for these. I have to start changing the way I think when I write so that these errors do not always appear.

I also have some confusion on the use of possessive ‘s’ for words or phrases (nouns, most pronouns, and noun phrases), if that could also be included.

Thank you for your expertise, it is very useful. Hope little Fire gets well soon!

Yes, I certainly will work out training for the voice and for transitions. Watch for updates!
I'm glad you found the training on punctuation helpful. And please feel free to suggest other training that might be useful. I'm always open to suggestions.
Thank you for the well wishes for Fire. I appreciate the thoughts!

Fire is looking great my friend. I'm so happy that the first round went well for her.

I will check out your training when time permits my friend, but I have to say that I believe English grammar is not so hard to learn in comparison to other languages, in my opinion only, the primary difficulties are the vast vocabulary and the phrasal verbs!!

Send my best to Fire, and I hope you have a fantastic end to the weekend Diane.

Thank you, my friend, for such kind words. Fire is doing surprisingly well and I am hopeful that trend continues.
It's interesting that you don't find English grammar as challenging as other languages. I am not adept at any others, though I do know a bit of Spanish. Which do you find most difficult?

It warms my heart that things are progressing better than expected with young Fire my friend.

As for languages, well, my wife is Brazilian and I lived in Brazil for 7 years or so and we mainly speak Portuguese at home. I think I have a reasonable understanding of the language, but when looking deeper into the verb tenses these latin languages have I realized that I only know the tip of the iceberg!

I've lived in Spain a couple of times before and have now been in France since 2014! So my basic knowledge of these languages is not too bad!

In English where we have 4 or 5 basic grammar tenses, in Latin languages they use up to about 16!

Obviously most people don't use them all, but as a teacher I find it intriguing and interesting to learn as many as possible!

I have never tried to learn an Asian language, so I am unable to comment about them, but they don't appear easy to me!

I hope your day is going well my friend.

Haha, I teach English in Vietnam and sometimes I can’t see the reason for something. Some of the rules are so long that it is sometimes easier to learn the “ outcomes” , words or phrases by themselves.
But your understanding of grammar is very good. Now pull up a chair..lol.
So sorry to hear about your companion, Fire. She looks lovely. It is really nice you can take care of her.

Regards
Stephen

hahaha...I agree that the rules sometimes outlast the understanding. I cannot imagine having to teach them to a non-native speaker.
Fire is indeed a beautiful soul and such a sweet companion.

Thank you!

Cute pic Diane.

Thanks, Geoffrey.
The other dogs think she looks weird wearing a shirt, but she doesn't seem to care what they think! haha
