Totally lost and confused.....

Hi everyone,

This is my very first post. Yay! But I don't know if what I have to say will be received well. I feel lost and confused on how Wealthy Affiliate works. I really like it here. It seems like a great community of people all working together for the same goal-to make money online. But I'm not sure on how to do that here. I kind of get the concept. I am completely new to the "online market" and have been watching the video's on how to build your site. I just don't understand how it can make you money. I do understand that you can refer people to this site and you will get a certain percentage of commission when and if they do join too. Maybe I am over-thinking this and the answer really is simple. I don't know. I just wanted to write about it and maybe someone else is as confused or lost as I am, or maybe someone can give me answers and those that are in the same place as me can get answers as well. I really Hate that I have to be a premium member in order to ask kyle or carson a message. I know that either of them can show up in the live chat but that is only during the "seven days to see what you're missing" before the time is up you can ask questions and do certain things but not everything. How do I know that it would be worth the $19 a month? I need to understand more of what's offered here before I can give a dime, and make sure that if I do apply my hard work to learning and developing everything you're instructed to that it would be worth it. I don't have the money now, and I have read that a few times in others comments. I really Hate that when your seven days is up you're left wandering the dark and can hopefully stumble upon answers if you get stuck on something and need an answer because you need to be a premium member in order to ask any questions.

I'll write more latter....mommy is being called....

A good day to everyone!! :o)

~Melissa

what they are not understanding is you only have your time to sacrifice not money if you are saying its hard for you to pay the $19 im pretty sure its even harder for you to pay the $47 after that and another thing that struck me was people saying you should have a website in a month yea you can but that doesn't mean you will make money from it I totally understand what your going through I have to pull extra hours at work to pay for my premium but who says the extra hours will always be there and where would that leave me once I cant afford to pay any more.. I hope you've had some success with wa and making some type of money to get you started good luck in your journey and god bless.........

You do have a very good insight about why you are here. And that's reason enough to suppose that you do have an idea about online money, and doing it the right way through WA. That said, I feel it is just right to add that all the activities we do towards making money may and can make us think we've lost track of our end goal. Well, not really.

When we study the certification courses sometimes we feel they aren't congruent with what we believe as important for our purpose. But they are important. And this we can truly appreciate when the whole picture is formed before us where we can see that everything we strived to learn really was a piece of the puzzle. Thanks and good luck..

Hi Melissa,
Don't be discouraged with the overload of info, or length of time it may take to earn something. Pace yourself with this program, invest what time you can (when you can) and keep moving forward. I too, am feeling overwhelmed at the moment so I take in small bits at a time so my head won't spin and I won't throw up guacamole! All the Best!

Hi Melissa,
I certainly can understand where you're at. I started out the same way. I didn't know how it would make money either. Like Rich says below, you can be an affiliate of companies that sell products.
There's many companies out there in any kind of product you'd want to promote. You become an affiliate of a company, such as Amazon, Walmart, etc. and you add the links they give you as an affiliate to your website, people then can click on these links to buy something from these companies. If they do buy a product through your link then you get paid a commission from the company you are an affiliate of.

BTW, I do believe the Premium membership is only $19 for the first month, but then it is $47 a month after that, but well worth it.

I hope this helps answer your question! Best wishes!
-Sherry

that is the only down side here - information overload ! Funny but true :-)

that and the cost is for me the other down side....

I understand you about the premium membership part. If I do not see results within a month I may have to cancel. I could keep going, but eventually I will be forced to cancel if I have $0 in my bank account by December. Everybody here knows I have no job and am stuck in Mexico with. Chances of me getting a plane ticket to America probably will not happen. Then, I will probably be forced to move my website from Wealthy Affiliate to Namecheap or something. Luckily, I am good to go with my Network Solutions site since I pay it yearly now.

I agree with you that you shouldn't have to be a premium member in order to ask questions of K & C.
Personally, I haven't reached a decision yet as to what niche to be involved in so I'm not there, but I do understand that one is not allowed to do certain things here unless you're a premium member.
My premium membership is about to run out because I simply do not have the money. However, I will say that there are many people here who probably will answer most of our questions (if not all) when we get stuck. I'm going to blog when I reach that point and hopefully get all my Qs answered that way. Keep a list of people who you can tap if you're stuck or just, like I said, write a blog.
By the way, it won't be $19.00 a month. It'll be $47.00 a month.
Emma

Thank you Emma! I can't afford the $19 so there is no way I can afford the $47. I've heard some people say that if you can't do the "effort" (or give money) then you're not giving it your all. I find that completely insulting and wrong. We're all here for the same reason, no matter what your back round, education, or financial means are. If I had the money to spend I wouldn't need to make money. I know you understand lol, just venting. I really appreciate your advice! I didn't even know I had a blog, as stupid as that sounds, I was kind of overwhelmed and trying to absorb all the information I could first. thank you Emma. I wish you all the success. honestly.

You'll find that 99 out of 100 questions have probably been answered, just type a word or two in the search bar at the top. If not, open a "discussion" in the most appropriate classroom. I've blogged about the affordability of Premium here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/wa-affiliate-program/can-anyone-actually-afford-premium as has Jorge here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jespinola/blog/are-you-a-starbucks-fan If you go annual, it equates to $29 per month and whilst I'd never recommend WA over putting food on the table, it really does depend whether or not you really "want" your own business as to whether or not you're willing to make any necessary other sacrifices to achieve that goal. Rich.

That is correct. It is cheap the first month which give you plenty of room to build a website and hopefully get somewhere in one month's time. The second month is where it gets tricky especially for those struggling financially.

Hey Melissa. It's easy to suffer information overload at the start. I know I certainly did. You can affiliate with thousands of companies, such as Amazon and earn commission https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/ or even promote WA itself. There's also numerous other ways of monetising a website: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/6-ways-to-make-money-with-your-wordpress-blog Hope this helps! :) Rich.

Thank you Rich! I really appreciate the advice! It is definitely an overload to put it mildly and I figure if I take it a step or bite at a time I can grasp it/digest it. Could I ask you a question although? You've helped me in the past before and for that i'm grateful, but does it cost more money to monetize or earn commission with amazon? I feel like there is so much more that I don't know. But I really am willing to learn and better myself for myself and my boys. Thanks again Rich

No, there's usually no charge to join an affiliate program, you're helping sell their products and they pay you a commission for doing so. :) Rich.

Thanks again Rich, I am making all the sacrifices I can at the moment, I'm sure you don't want my story but believe me I do have extras in my house, we're making it as far as we can with what we have. As I've heard someone else say "there is far too much month left at the end of money" I'm looking for work and have applied to 16 places this week alone, it seems either I am not skilled enough or they're not hiring. I'm sorry I was giving you my story anyway. I want this to work. I want this to be my success story. I have ideas that I think will work I just need to figure out how that can happen or if i'm on the right path of where I want to go.

I never recommend WA as a short term solution myself, as even if you were immediately successful, it's unlikely you'll see money in the bank any time soon, most affiliate programs don't pay out for 60-90 days after you make the "sale". In the meantime, consider places such as Fiverr http://www.fiverr.com or if you're happy to string a sentence together for someone else, Textbroker http://www.textbroker.com You could also check out Steve's (@IveTriedThat) website for other options at http://www.ivetriedthat.com Rich.

Thank you Rich, I really didn't know it took that long to earn anything after making a sale. God I have a long way to go!! I feel so....defeated....for lack of a better description of how I feel. I don't even have content on my site yet. It seems like it'll be a long while before I earn anything. Well that plain stinks. I feel like I wasted so many hours and days learning for something that won't pan out till a long time down the road. Thank you for informing me, I'll probably look elsewhere then. I didn't expect this to be a "get rich quick" kind of thing but at this rate I won't see anything in return at least for another 6 months to a year. :o( how discouraging...But thank you.

I'd definitely recommend giving this a read: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/getting-started/how-long-has-it-taken-you-to-earn-what-you-earn In my case, it took me just over a year but I'm now earning twice what I was in my full time job. :) Rich.

Thank you for the advice. I guess a year from now seems like such a long time. I'll read what you gave me. I am not ready to completely give up. I want this to work so freakin badly that I can taste it! I just need the map to get there. may I ask did you have a good paying job? thank you Rich, for sharing with me everything you have. I appreciate it.

I was in advertising, which gave me a brilliant environment to work in and a fantastic social life but the money wasn't what I'd call great. It was also usually 8am-8pm, often weekends too, and a lot of meetings about meetings. I always looked at this as starting my own business. If I wanted to open a "real world" shop, that would cost me c. $200,000 at the minimum in London, and probably take 3-4 years to show any profit, so to me, WA has been a fantastic "shortcut". :) Rich.
