Calling All Newbies - Running Before Crawling Will Hurt Your Knees

Last Update: May 07, 2019

Hey all newbies just like the baby in the photo we have to learn to run, but before that, the steps to do this will require you to crawl and then walk, and here in Wealthy Affiliate this is called training.

Don't tell me this, I can hear you wailing, how annoying I want to gallop into my Laptop Lifestyle and start out earning mega money every day, no slowing me down. Well you may just end up on your butt and having to go back to crawling.

I am a green newbie here at WA, just started my 3rd month. In this time I have moved ahead on a daily basis with my business. My abilities and skills gained in the last 2 months still surprise me.

Excitement, a strong desire to earn money, the need to be successful, a desire to help other people, these are more than likely the way all newbies feel when you start to get your teeth into Wealthy Affiliate. This is great, but beware of the pitfalls, and there are many ahead. Keeping reading so we don't end up losing you, the Newbie, down the rabbit hole, never to resurface.

Beware Danger Ahead!

I enjoy spending time in the Wealthy Affiliate community as I have gained so much from it. However, the one thing I see that really worries me, is Newbies getting so excited they want to jump right in and forget to do the training, and start to head off on all these different roads that they are not yet ready to travel.

Another Newbie danger is seeing what people are achieving and then not fully understanding how long that person has been working at their business, and what learning curve they have been through to get there. You more than likely will not have overnight success, it takes training, time, daily consistent action and perseverance.

Crawl, Walk, Run

Look at yourself as a baby in the most amazing Affiliate training school, in the world. You need to be potty trained, then you will be taught to crawl, walk and finally run.

At the potty training stage do yourself a favour and get stuck into whichever training you have chosen to do, get tunnel vision, and ignore all the other stuff going on around you in the community. Use the community for help related to your current lesson. You have just built your first website, do you really need to know right now how to add images?

Avoid overwhelm, move on from one step to the next, they have been designed to teach you what you need to know at each relevant stage.

At the end of your training, when you have completed all the modules and done each task laid out, then you can crawl.

How Do I Get To Run?

Now is the time to start watching the extra training on a regular basis.

Start taking note of what questions people are asking, say in the live chat, and how you may be missing something you did not understand or even realize you should be doing. Follow the Wealthy Affiliate members who are achieving, look at their websites and learn from them. Become more active in the Wealthy Affiliate community, read blogs, look at some of the amazing training that is available, start to get an idea of the tools on offer and how to use them.

Understand that publishing your post is just the start, now the work begins. From the live training, and keeping an eye on the chat and questions in the community I have found out the following:- all my posts need metadata, tags are not that important, how to add internal and external links and why I should add them, how to embed a video, how to add my post immediately to my sitemaps to be indexeded, and so much more.

Why Did Kyle Not Teach Me That In The Core Training!

Easy answer, you did not need to know it then and you would more than likely have become overwhelmed.

Every day I understand that there is so much more to this Wealthy Affiliate lifestyle than I ever imagined, and each day brings a new skill or realization to use to grow my business.

I am not always at the stage I am ready to use this information, so I park it somewhere safe, and go back when I need it. I am about to start setting up my You Tube channel, so now I will go back to Jay's live training that came out right at the start of my apprenticeship here and I was not yet ready to take on board. If I had watched the training then it would have overwhelmed me and sent me off in a direction I was not yet equipped to handle. It was also a matter of priority, at that stage my core training needed all my available time and energy.

Fly Like The Wind

Every blog, lesson watched, question asked and money making tasks you incorporate into your day will bring you one step closer to soaring.

You don't know what you don't know. Finding out what you don't know only comes with time, training and putting yourself out there. Then you will find yourself flying high.

Good luck and let me know what you think, all comments are appreciated.

Denise

A timely reminder and good advice. I spend too much time looking at other training on here before getting on with my actual training. Thank you.

You are right about keeping a focus on the training one step at a time.

I know it is exciting to jump ahead, but sometimes we have to pull ourselves in to do everything the right way. Thanks for your comment, have a great day, Denise.

Thank you Denise , what excellent advice! It is so easy to get caught up with wanting to learn everything! I have to catch myself often so that I don't get off track; I'm easily distracted (LOL). So with that being said, let me get back to training! Thanks again

Excellent advice Denise.
I hear you, with you don't know what you don't know. That's what I say with being new to it all, not a tech person.

Hi Mick thank you. I am so not a tech person also, but I am amazed what I am actually figuring out, only it takes me probably 20 times longer than other tech inclined people, lol.
Have a great day,
Denise

It's the little details that trip us up. I wish there were some way we could just open up our brain and pour in the knowledge. If I could learn all those little details all at once I wouldn't have to go back and figure out what I did wrong. The grey search bar at the top of the page helps, because you can often find the answer to a perplexing problem right there if you read the right tutorial.

Be sure to prevent yourself from the YouTube ban. Someone posted got the ban for using affiliate links. Use disclaimers and use shorten you URL sites for your affiliate links. Imperative to read YouTube rules first before posting your videos. Best wishes to you with that. Thanks for sharing this with us. I agree that some wannabe super fast and in the end, they end up hurting themselves more. I had previous business experience so I am aware that it takes time to learn and build a business.

Ha, don't worry I have had to have this same message given to me in other adventures, so working hard to take my own advice this time. Good luck you will get there, have a great day.

Hi DeniseAS

There are few things you have mentioned that I am quite guilty of...not in a bad way but its wonderful that there are people just like you being able to get back and grasp the hands of those still to crawl, run and fly...like us...me....

Often I got carried away...
Overwhelmed that I literally become inconsistent with my schedule.... I place too much on one thing than the other....however, you've really given something that will definitely keep my focus steady.

I am starting to get the grip of what WA is all about. Iam more than happy because this is just what I have been searching the past couple of years online...

Thanks again

Being a wonderful journey so far. Now I got to work consistently, reschedule my work plans, time management etc.

Cheers to you and all the best with your continuous success and learning here at WA...
