Does age matter?

Does your resume ever get too long? What about when it goes past two pages?

Does age matter? Should it matter? It really depends on the situation, doesn't it? Most people past the age of 30 don't take up professional sports. I did say professional. Maybe some do. The older I get the more curious I become about almost anything and just about everything, except sports. My little 3.3 pound brain can't hold everything,

However, in the public market, age does matter, although many times it should not.

Ageism is alive and well.

I just read a joke some of you will appreciate and the rest of you will someday. It applies to anyone between the age of 3 and 103, and I do remember the admonishment given to me by my parents from around the age of three:

"I don't know how to act my age. I've never been this old before."

Should Companies Fire Their

Senior Employees?

Companies may believe they are losing productivity for a lack of speed, especially at electronics, though they might actually get more bang for their buck due to the life experiences, quality of work, and work ethics of the more mature employees. Fortunately, some companies are waking up to this fact, albeit, slowly.

But woe to those companies who fire all their senior employees so they can get the newest batch of graduate hotshots with their newest graduate hotshot ideas on their payroll. The most experience these guys and gals have is evaluating endless case studies of companies, real or fictional. I know. Been there, done that. I have many case studies under my college belt. I hired a group of college students once to do a case study on one of my food services. Oh yeah. NOT.

It's never too late to go to school, and it is certainly never too late to learn new things. I was a professional student and it took me 14 years to finally get a BS in Business and Marketing at the age of 39. Then I went back for an MBA at the age of 45, which I couldn't finish because my business took up too much time. (Restaurant Business, what else could one expect?) I loved the campus life.

There is so much energy on a college campus, it is positively addictive.

Online Business is Blind to Age

The good news is, depending on who's doing the hiring, age doesn't seem to matter so much if you're working online. And it matters not at all, if you're running your own business. That's one of the things that is so neat about being a part of Wealthy Affiliate.

Their training is awesome--in all ways to make money online. It's like running your own business on a college campus. How do you choose your course load when there's so many courses? There is all that energy generated by the young people, and a whole lot of experience demonstrated by the professors, my new term for oldsters. What a great combination: energy and experience.

You've seen the studies on growing new brain cells, right? Google it.

Here at Wealthy Affiliate it doesn't really matter, does it, our age, or gender, or nationality? And isn't that nice? It makes me very happy to find new friends I can relate to based on similar age and background. It's fun to reminisce, although that isn't very productive.

It is also totally stimulating to hear news about crypto, blockchain, web3.0, AI, AR, and VR from the Reddit crowd. Could you please stop shorting silver? (I'm sure glad posts and comments are in printed form so I can read things over more than once.)

I'm taking a big chance here, assuming any particular age group is or isn't into those things. Maybe you are. Let me know, because I am and we should talk. Also, it's fun as well as educational to meet friends from around the globe.

It depends on who my audience is, to be sure, but I might try to come across younger in some of my profiles and professional websites. As to speaking with my friends here in Wealthy Affiliate, what's the point? Sure we can use a profile picture from years back, and I am certainly not opposed to that, but our voice will eventually betray us. We can't help sounding wise, right? (lol) Hopefully not senile.

I would love to hear your views on this subject.

Yes ,age matters in a positive way,
Age is a training course and when fully qualified, you are ready to take on any new venture with complete confidence.

Being self employed and 'fully qualified' I have always been immune to company policies and 'ageisms', but it's clearly apparent to me much of the problems and 'mess ups' today are a result of these policies, the ones in charge of running things simply haven't achieved the top level qualifications yet, so utter crazyness rules !!

I agree with you Deelilah on market manipulation especially with silver, but also in relation to the overall market / world events situation, pure controlled manipulation. again, crazyness !!

For me, age has never entered my thought process and never will, I just keep going forward, gaining 'qualifications as I go there's always so much more 'training' to do !!

Hello Richy. I just added you to my network. Neat spelling on your name. You must be or are going to be rich. But then there are so many ways to be rich, aren't there? Like so many ways to be old. I must be getting tired. I'm beginning to wax philosophical. Thank you for your comments on my blog piece. Age absolutely does not matter-- until it does.

How wonderfully said, "Age is a training course. . ." I thoroughly plan on borrowing that line. Let me know if that would "not" be OK. Since I am no longer officially working and am exploring the markets and investing, politics and news are unavoidable. Yes. Manipulation. Craziness. It is positively strange out there. And these crazies are running the corporations and the government. On the other hand, I am discovering some very knowledgeable and honest people in the publishing and investing fields-- as I am here at WA.

Hi Deelilah
Thank you for your kind comments, yes you can use the line, after all , the more people realise the power of age, the better.
I have been watching the various markets fo a long time, my Father was a stock broker and though I didn't follow suite, It has always been in the background, but there are some 'slippery' carachters out there now, so you have o be careful
Good luck with your trading and to quote one decent and honest trader, I like, " May every day be a pay day for you"
Richy

I used to think that I never wanted to get old. Now, my life experiences are something I wish I had 20+ years ago. WA is excellent that we are all very diverse in our backgrounds and ages. It is awesome. Ageism caught up to my Dad and forced him into retirement. He was the top salesman and they kept chipping away at his commission. I wish he has this resource as I do. This is a wonderful community!

I would rather do this anyway. Some industries are getting the message, like the trucking industry. They can't find drivers willing to forgo marijuana among the younger set. Smoke it, if you want, but don't drive a semi-truck. My husband drives tanker at 72. Thanks for reading.

At 78 in 12 days time, I love keeping on top of the technology and have 25 websites to prove it. I think staying fit is a big part of it too. "You're only as old as you feel" has a lot of truth in it.

I'm almost two years ahead of you! -- That's how I think of it, ahead of rather than older than.

Have you seen the T-shirt "I can't believe I'm the same age as old people"?

I've seen the saying, but not in t-shirt form.

Here is a t-shirt I did buy a while back:

Thanks for the sending the picture, Rosana. It's precious.

Great way to say it. I love it.

Hi Phil. I am now following you, and I am definitely going to check out your websites. Thanks for your comment.

My pleasure, Donna.

Definitely a winner.

I also believe our maturity and experience add much wisdom to the world. Thanks for this article. And the humor.
It is a challenge to keep up with all the technology. Thankfully, one of my sites is for seniors, and I can research all sorts of topics, get educated on them, and present an article to help other seniors! A win-win.
Nice to meet you!
Barbara

Hello Barbara, thanks for reading. I'm going to follow you-- and look at your senior site. It seems reasonable to take advantage of our first-hand knowledge on the subject.

Thank you! Barbara

Age is just a number....grin.

It is unfortunate that companies who look for short-term results resort to forcing 20 and 30-year employees into retirement, instead of paying for their retraining, as our work ethics are much better...IMHO.

Rudy

Do you look like your avatar? What program did you use to make it? It's nice. I have to ask; did you mean 20-30 in that sentence?

Avatar was created using android phone app. The image is as close as I could get it to resemble me..

Yes, that would be more accurate, 20-30 years, although the intent was meant to reflect that both 20 year and 30 year veteran employees are forced out.

Rudy

Thank you for clarifying that. Yes, it could go either way. I have a grandson who finally found an employer willing to train, plus his co-workers are helpful. This is an auto parts chain. Employers are becoming more willing. They can't find workers.
