Ships at Sea
Over the Horizon
Friday the 21st, just gone, would have been my Dad’s 96thbirthday. I remember him every day in a good way. I often think of the father and son times, the fun times that we had together when I was a kid, 6 or 8 years old, and how I thought that these days would never end.
When I was sat in the church on Friday I was reminded of one memorable occasion when we were stood together on the beach, hand in hand, listening to the roar of the tide as it shifted the pebbles along the shoreline. I watched as a large ship sailed south through the Irish Sea on its way to somewhere distant.
Where has it come from Dad, I asked.
It can come from anywhere son. Probably from Liverpool, but we don’t know.
We stood there for many minutes and I watched, transfixed as the ship slowly rolled over the horizon and out of sight. All that was left was the thick black foggy smoke from the ship’s funnels. Dad lifted me up and placed me on his shoulders and I could see more, I could see the ship again, it was still there.
A few minutes later, all that was left was the tell-tale smoke again. It’s gone I said, and quick as a flash my Dad ran to the top of a nearby sand dune with me in his arms. The ship came back, I could see it again. And we played this game until we had climbed the highest dune and could go no higher.
Where is it going to Dad.
We don’t know son.
Only the people on the ship know where they have come from, where they are going and why.
I remember those words so well - where they have come from, where they are going and why.
And isn’t that true of our dreams, of our goals and aspirations in life.
Only you know why you have a dream and only you will truly know where you have started from and where you want to be.
And when that dream starts to fade, as it crosses the horizon, when only the smoke remains to show you where it was, change your position so that you can see your dream again. Climb higher and find your dream once more. Even if you’ve lost sight of it, you know that your dream is still there, sailing to that place that only you know. Across the sea to destinations new.
Make that effort, climb the sand dune and find that ship.
Rediscover your dream

Love the story! Great post once again. It's easy to lose sight and once we reach out dream there is no need to stop there.

Some great memories of your dear father here my friend.
So true though, if we ever see our dreams fade away into the distance, then just climb higher and higher until we are so high they will fade no more!
Enjoy what is left of your Sunday Bux and have a fantastic week ahead!:-)
I will Nick. And you have an enjoyable and profitable time too.
