We Are All Imperfectly Perfect (Under Your Scars)
One of the things I like most about YouTube is that every so often I come across something that just blows my mind. Sometimes I discover a new band that I’ve never heard before and just instantly love their music. Other times I learn a new skill which enables me to do something new in my online business.
This morning during a break from writing I was watching a video from one of my favorite rock bands when the next suggested video was from a band I had never heard of before called Godsmack. (I now know that they have been around for quite a while and seem to be quite big in the USA).
I let the video come on and the introductory sequence of the video produced this screen which really piqued my attention:
What followed was a fantastic rock ballad called “Under Your Scars” which I really enjoyed but the video itself really blew me away. This wasn’t your usual rock band video of guys headbanging on stage and a crowd going mental (OK there was a little of that).
Throughout the video there were clips of the band meeting fans – but not just any fans; these were all people who were in some way or another disabled, injured or suffering from personal loss.
I was moved to find out more and discovered that the song was written to raise awareness of The Scars Foundation which was founded by Sully Erna and Godsmack to raise awareness of mental health issues - from depression to suicide.
This is a quote from their website:
Sully shares his story whenever he can and emphasizes that “Scars come in all forms. They are both physical and emotional. They’re traumatizing and make us fear what people may think of us. We are ALL imperfect in some way, that’s what makes us perfect and unique! EVERYONE has something that makes them insecure or embarrassed. Instead of hiding or internalizing them, own them and show them off to the world! Let them empower you so you can be a voice for everyone who can’t be. If we ALL wear our scars loudly and proudly, others will follow.”
No matter what your scars are - abuse, mental illness, disabilities, bullying, addiction - none of them are defects, but a part of your unique story.
We are all imperfectly perfect
What can we learn from this as affiliate marketers? For me there are two important points which are worth remembering when going about our business.
Firstly, whatever your scars are from your own personal past, they are part of what has made you the person you are today. When people make decisions about what to do or buy online they often go to someone they can identify with and relate to.
Chris Ducker calls this being a “Youpreneur” – ie building your business around you as a brand.
Your personality should shine out from your business and build trust in you. This means that whenever you make a recommendation on something to your customers, they will have confidence in what you have said.
Secondly, your primary objective for your business should be to help as many people as possible. In the same way that Wealthy Affiliate promotes the idea of paying it forward by helping others, you should also be looking to do this in your business.
Remember the great quote by Zig Ziglar who said "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want."
Helping people on your site with great information and advice will generate loyalty towards you and trust in whatever you recommend for them.

I hope it’s ok to share these links – they are not affiliate links of any kind.
Wear your “scars” proudly and be there for others with their own scars.

Only God is perfect and through him those scars will be heal. I will tell the story of my father and my only sister. I was two months old when my sister died. She was two years and two months old. My father had to be tranquilizer by his brother-in-laws who were doctors. My father was under her crib holding on to her crib where she was lying dead. Crying and screaming to God "why". Later in life my father passed away. Now that my father has been dead he got the answer why God wanted her. We as humans; we all got scars.
Your post has brought tears to my eyes. All I do in life is to strive to help others. Even at my own expense. I get emotional when I see others promoting this love so strongly.
Thank you. You have moved me.

Wow, thanks so much for your kind comment. It was an unexpected discovery for me too and I just had to write about it afterwards.
Kindness towards others is one of the most beautiful things in this world.
I do agree and it is such a wonderful thing to see others who feel the same way.
Thank You
Laura
Thanks for this very thought provoking post. Mental illness is one of my concerns. I lost a brother to suicide and I have worked in the field as support services. A family member is also working in the mental health field.
This post reminds me of the song by Mercy Me called Flawless. Check it out if you like.
We do all need each other to help us in our journey.
Bless you.

Thank you Barb. Supporting those with mental illness is tough but also rewarding. I'll definitely check out your suggestion.
Thanks again and have a great day
