Hi, Danijel

The data in Universal GA updates for me in less than 5 minutes, including inside Search Console Insights, but it takes at least a day with GA4.

Apparently, one of the big changes with GA4 revolves around increased data privacy, which is what is driving some of its limitations.

According to the latest Google report, Universal GA will stop displaying all data on October 1st, 2023.

If they are gonna shut it down they should make that GA4 work perfectly. -_-

I am still using Universal GA but I also use GA4 for months and this never happened to me, I will wait a couple of days to see how it's going.

At least I know that my traffic is okay.

Yeah, no worries.

The GA4 data lag happens everyday for me.

I’m a little surprised that it’s the first time you’ve seen it.

Haha yes, so strange. I even did not know that people have problems with GA4.

Hey Danijel,

Yep, most people hate GA4, LOL!

Basically, it takes longer to update... here's the exact phrasing from the Google Support Blog:

"Google Analytics allows for a data processing delay of 24-48 hours. During that time, data may change, so reports may not be consistent when viewing the last 24-48 hours in an account. Data uploaded via Data Import will be available within 24 hours."

So, for example, when you check your analytics on Sunday, the 16th and 17th will be "updated" with the correct figures, whereas the 18th and 19th MAY not yet be reported properly.

Bascially, always give it up to 48 hours to "update".

Partha

Thanks, Partha! GA4 is BS for me -_-

I did not know that info you said, so you want to say that I should wait? Or maybe do something? But don't know what Lol

Maybe delete this GA4 account and make a new one?

No, just leave it, it's fine.

Check again tomorrow, and you'll see the 16th has been "updated" with the correct figures, and if you check on Sunday, you'll see the 17th has been "updated".

It's usually a 24-hour "delay" on analytics, but as you can see from Google's own blog, they say 24-48 hours.

This is also why you shouldn't check Analytics and traffic every day (yes, I know it's hard and it's "calling you", LOL, "please check my traffic today", LOL), otherwise it will drive you mad.

It's a difficult habit to get into, but in all honesty, I probably check traffic and analytics once or twice a month.

Partha

Thanks a lot! I assume everything is fine with my website traffic as GSC and UA are showing traffic as they should, even showing an increase in my organic traffic, first I thought it was some penalty lol

You are definitely right about checking GA, how do you have the strength to look only once a month Lmao, I am looking at it every day :o Bad habit definitely but it helps me to not think about it haha.

I disagree with you this time, I check it at least once a week, to see if Googles core updates don't have any 'surprises' in store for me :-p
Especially when they have announced updates so that I need to take action to find out how I got to a huge traffic drop and to fix it :-) If you wait a month to check things, it takes longer work to get the traffic back up again.

maybe you could check with site support if your GA4 code is well installed to be sure?

hm, you are right, I will check that too

That's alright, you're "allowed" to disagree, LOL, I quite enjoy it.

Hmmm... we'll agree to disgaree.. Hahahahahahaha!!

For you, I think it's okay, because you have a great mindset.

I'm sure Danijel does too.

BUT

A LOT of people will do things "first thing in the morning" that typically affects their mental state, and this then harms their productivity for the rest of the day.

You can GUARANTEE there are a few million people who check Google Analytics Every Single Morning, and if it's "bad" or "nothing is happening" it makes them feel sad and dejected and this can then affect the rest of their working day.

They feel unhappy, they procrastinate, they try to make themselves "happy" by doing something else, they can't concentrate on work, etc.

As much as I like to think I am "mentally strong", I am definitely one of "those" people.

So, for me, on a day-to-day basis, I WON'T do things like look at Analytics, check WA, check sales, check ad revenue, etc. for the first 7 hours of my day.

Unfortunately, one bit of "bad news" and then I can't fully concentrate for the rest of the day.

You know yourself, without "distractions" your productivity is AMAZING.

I know myself, I've gone say 10 days without even coming onto WA, and it that 10 days I've got as much work done as I usually do in a month.

And "Analytics Checking" is definitely a "time-stealer" for those who allow "bad news" to affect them (That's ME!!! Hahahaha).

I was thinking first: I'm not going to respond, because I really can't figure out GA4 yet, it annoys me lol and I don't want to annoy anyone when not being able to help, BUT I took a closer look at my own GA4 , and it also went down slowly, although not this huge.
But anyway, are you sure that GA4 is correctly connected, did you for example remove a plugin that had the code in it from Ga4?
Because in the past, this happened to me as well, so then Google can't track it anymore if you don't have the code installed and your traffic can plummet like that in the statistics, while in reality, it doesn't.
To check out if there really was a dive in real traffic, see if your organic traffic on Google Search Console is still ok.
If it also plummeted there, then there is something else going on.
Lastly, I thought that universal analytics didn't update anymore so the stats on it aren't reliable anymore?
I know it looks scary, but it is probably just a disconnecting of the code issue, I hope!
Lizzy

Hmm, thank you. Yes, Google Console works pretty fine and it's showing traffic as always, it's definitely something up to GA4.

And yes, Universal GA still works great, they say it will shut down soon but it still gets info on traffic. I hope that UA will stay there for long, i really hate GA4 lol

No problem and yes I hate it too lol
