xml sitemap for all in one seo

So the last few days have been frustrating trying to get my xml sitemap working properly. I searched WA, google and youtube and couldn't figure it out. I kept getting a XML PARSING ERROR: NO ELEMENT FOUND"

Location: http://daddyisitsafe/.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:

I searched the setup of XML online and on this one video, the persons address was http://daddyisitsafe/sitemap_index.xml. So in my address bar I changed "http://daddyisitsafe.com/sitemap.xml" to http://daddyisitsafe/sitemap_index.xml" and sure enough, it found my sitemap. The only problem is there was nothing in my sitemap. In every tutorial I watched, the author says to leave the file name prefix as sitemap. I changed this to sitemap_index and Bam.. everything was working. Webmaster tool found my sitemap, I could view all my url's etc. Hope this helps anyone else who was having this issue.

+1. I've been looking for this answer for ages! You're a godsend.

Worked for me. Changed my filename prefix from sitemap to sitemap_index and all works. Thanks so much

this seemed to do the trick for me.

When you say that it listed all your Url's does that mean each and every last one? mine only lists out 5 url's:

http://hdgoprohero.com/sitemap_index_addl.xml.gz
http://hdgoprohero.com/sitemap_index_post.xml.gz
http://hdgoprohero.com/sitemap_index_page.xml.gz
http://hdgoprohero.com/sitemap_index_attachment.xml.gz
http://hdgoprohero.com/sitemap_index_category.xml.gz

I don't quite understand how it all works but looks good right?

Thanks so much for posting this - it is super helpful & fixed the glitch. I lost a couple of hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong...

I was pulling my hair out. Thanks for finding the fix!!!
