A few hard lessons learned

So recently, I've come across two things I wasn't doing right. One I knew about but didn't think it had gotten that bad and the other caught me by surprise but was happy it was pointed out to me.

The first thing that happened is actually a trap I set up for myself thru procrastination. What happened is every time I signed up for an new account to sites like Jaxxy or affiliate programs, even a business e-mail address I kept putting off writing down relevant information such as passwords and usernames. When I'd pay the member ship fees I wasn't saving the receipts in a specific folder nor was I printing them off. I was always "On a roll" so I was gonna do it later. Well today I spend over 4 hrs just doing that. I didn't realize how much I had done to date till I tried organizing everything and had to spend a fair amount of time just trying to remember passwords. I don't use the same password everywhere cause if someone were to figure one site out they'd know the rest. So doing things this way I had a "fun time" figuring them out. All said and done, the only issue that remains is a lost receipt so hopefully it will be able to be retrieved.

The other lesson learned actually caught me by surprise, it shouldn't have but it did. When I was first making my site I had a lot of pages with very little to no information on them so I'd write a post letting people know my site was under construction and to check in once in a while to see the progress. Then after a few update I'd write a short two to three line post letting my readers know I've updated the site. What I didn't realize I was doing was creating irrelevant content on my site and was explained that this "stuff" wouldn't get ranked in Google cause no one was searching for "Dan's progress". Although I thought I was doing something good, letting people know I'm working on my site regularly, I didn't realize I was actually hurting my ranking. I've sine remove these posts and written one relevant to my site.

Thanks for sharing your lessons learned. I agree.

Thanks for the follow and good luck.

Thanks for the administration tips. The only way we learn in life is either by taking advice from others (I will take yours) or by mistakes and I have had plenty of them!

We all learn some things the hard way. Now you know!

Good to know about update messages on sites in progress. Thanks for the info.

Passwords and paperwork are hard for me too. It's a current goal, to make writing things down a habit.
