Readers Want More Than Just Information From You

When a reader visits your site he or she is expecting not just information. They expect to be sold. That's why they are visiting your site. However this doesn't mean they are going to buy.

You're Their Sale Person

When you talk to a Sale Person you are not talking to this person for just information. You talking to this person to be guided to the right product. So you can make a good buying decision. Right?

Of course that's right. We all do this.

You also know this Sales People makes his or her living selling. But you know the buying decision is yours. And you're there to spend your money on the right product.

No one is forcing you. No one is controlling you. You want to be there. You're there willingly.

It's the same thing when a reader visits your site. They come willingly.

So in my opinion just providing information to your readers you are doing them a huge dis-serves. They are not getting everything they expect from their visiting experience.

It's the same thing I did to you in my previous post. I offered you information then walked away.

Let Your Niche Control You

Your Writing Needs to Sell. That's one of the major goals for writing.

Your readers needs to be converted into customers, right?

Of course that's right.

You have to make money.

Follow Their Lead

Think of Your Writing As A Long Ad

Even before you write, while doing your Niche Research, start thinking about conversions.

Take your cue from your niche.

For instance what gets them excited? When do they feel thrilled? What make them happy?

Helps them make their Buying Decisions because they expect if from you.

Most readers won't buy if you don't ask.

Like an ad - Appeal to readers emotions.

This Is The Way It Should Be

Think of your writing as leading a horse with a carrot.

While you're sitting in the cart, behind the horse, you're coaxing the horse forward. Not forcing the horse. But tempting it.

But here's a catch. This only works if you know what the horse wants. Just like a niche, no matter how much you try to tempt them. It just won't work if you don't know what they want.

The Niche is in control. And that's the way it shouldn't be.

All you're doing is following clues the Niche leaves behind, and coaxing readers to the next step in their buying decision.

So the question is what's your goal?

Do you want to be in control your niche? Or would your rather follow their lead?

Ok, so there's my reasoning for not controlling your Blog. assuming that you know what's going on in a Niche. I think it's much better to give up control and to follow your Niche to build a good relationship with them.

Do more listening. Less controlling.

You got me reading, man! Nice one. :)

Excellent point indeed!

Good point.

I like this because I like to think I help people buy, I don't sell anything, and I've got two ears and one mouth because what I hear is more important than what I say

Bit of a Bumper Sticker, but very true.

You said you provide good content. And that's my point exactly.

"Good Content" is selling. You're Selling Yourself to readers. It's soft selling. Not "hit them over the head" selling.

Hopefully readers will listen to you. And maybe even buy from you. Which is the ultimate goal for Online Business. right?

And if Good Content in the eyes of readers is finding the information they want, then knowing what they want is one of the first steps to writing Good Content.

So This means all I do is follow the lead of my readers when I write. Let them control what I write about, right?

And if all this is true then a very large sense I don't control my blog.

I Work For My Readers.

They Don't Work For Me, right?

I go to a lot of websites for information and not to be sold. If I feel pressured to buy then I am out of there in a hurry.

If you provide good content and make the customer feel they are already getting something by just visiting your blog, then they will come back for more.

I could argue a lot of these points you made, but my time is more valuable than that. I also agree with some of them too though.

I most likely will not follow any more of your post or not even bother to read them because I don't like to be "played" around with.

I have complete control of my blog as long as I stick to their rules that are required.

great post. Definitely some things to think about. Tina

Glad you liked it.

It took me a while to be able to step back and to see there is a whole other process which goes hand in hand with writing. It's leaning How To Sell Online. There's a whole Sale Psychology to it.

It's not just about giving people the information. It's also about the emotions which associated with the things readers want.

This Emotion Of The Buying Process is the real target for writing, to me. Touch their emotions and reader become passionate. As you seen happen here and my previous post.

One of the best advise I've ever read is "If you are not ruffling a few feather you are not testing enough".
Boy have I ruffled a few. Including my own. But I know I don't need to feel defensive. Being able to step back a bit I can see how this is just part of the learning process.

I've done what I set out to do. Touch reader's emotions. Get them to responded. Get comments. All of which is a 100% better than going unnoticed.

This post has been received a little bit better than the original. So the next time I'll test a different approach to the way I built the original title, which started off this conversation. .
