Renfield And Other Obscurities
In my continuing quest to stump the Google search engines (with something other than pure gobbledygook) I have endeavored to spend a bit of time searching out relative obscurities...
My selected criterion: GIF availability.
RENFIELD, for example.
Do you know who or what this is? No, it's not a fan nickname for a remote, right field section of Wrigley Field, frequented by an unusual number of small, brown birds...
You would probably only be familiar if, like me, you are an old horror movie buff, and remember that Renfield is Dracula's slave in the old, 1931 Bela Lugosi incarnation of "Dracula."
This is Renfield sneaking up on an unconscious maid. He was a pathetic individual, who usually got his required blood from bugs, arachnids, and rodents.
I particularly remember him at the end of Dracula's long sea voyage from Transylvania to England, after being confined in the hold for the entire trip ( keeping his "master," Count Dracula, safe in his coffin, and most likely supplying him with needed nourishment).
When locals find the ship, run aground on the rocks, they board the vessel, and immediately hear maniacal laughter, coming from the hold.
Upon opening the hatch, they discover Renfield, near the bottom of the stairs, cackling like a madman!
I believe one fellow's line is something like, "My God...He's stark-raving mad!"
He is quickly dispatched to a nearby insane asylum, where he lives on mice and spiders until his master shows up one night to rescue him.
There were only 15 GIFs available on Renfield. Fairly obscure, being as many things I check have several thousand GIFs to sort through to find the optimal images!
RENFIELD
I went to Transylvania
On business with the Count,
I may have lost some red blood cells,
But, you can't count me out!
I'm Renfield, eating spiders,
Renfield, eating mice,
I'm Renfield, eating Counties' wife,
Now, that's not very nice,
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
Stuck in the asylum,
Come and get me, Master,
I'm getting very hungry,
Can't you get here any faster?
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
Such beautiful music,
Children of the night,
Welcome to my castle,
Won't you come in for a bite?
Tell me something, Master,
Will you be my best bud?
It's no real disaster,
Go ahead and drink my blood.
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
You change into a wolf,
With scary, glowing eyes,
You turn yourself into a bat,
Flying through the skies,
Women do your bidding,
You have a midnight snack,
Staring deep into their souls,
Now, why can't I do that?
If I said a slave's the life for me,
I would be a liar,
All I really wanna be...
Is a Va-Va-Va-Va-Vampire!
But, I'm Renfield, eating spiders,
Renfield, eating mice,
I'm Renfield, eating Counties' wife,
Now, that's not very nice,
If I said a slave's the life for me,
I would be a liar,
All I really wanna be...
Is a Va-Va-Va-Va-Vampire!
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
HA HA HA HA,
HA HA HA HA.
I'm Renfield!!

I must say I am not a fan of horror movies at all! I'm glad there was no sound attached either! Clever post though, Rick
Hi Rick.
Loved this. As you know, my interests are not of the expected feminine sort!
I wondered if you would include my favourite lines from Dracula. Simple words, yet distinctly evocative because of their simplicity, I feel.
“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
I am delighted that you made reference to these lines and I guess your imagination works on a similar level as mine. I still shiver when I read them!
Do you know that one of the busiest city centre streets in Glasgow is Renfield Street? Henceforth, I will think of your song everytime I walk there, and will cover my neck - just in case!
Take care
Lynn

Igor would make a good cohort to Renfeld Rick! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_(character)
Vincent price is a good follow up to Lugosi also!
Igor and Renfield would probably be good friends, Mike, although Renfield might drain Igor of a little blood. I always liked the father of the vampires, although there were vamps before Lugosi, like from Nosferatu.
I remember in 1990 political cartoons of Ceausescu of Romania wrapped in his cloak glaring at the hordes of westerners invading castle Dracula as the communist government fell!
Were his fangs showing?
I knew a guy from Serbia when I was in the military and I swear he had a Lugosi grin!
