Here's the swing! It's a.

If you've read any of my earlier posts or bio, you'll know that I'm a huge baseball fan. It might be a kid's sport, but the art, combined with science and sheer skill fascinate me. I've followed baseball since...well, always! And now that we're towards the end of the baseball season and moving towards the World Series, it got me thinking.

I was the kid that the other kids in my neighborhood hated. I'm ambidextrous. So they could never quite figure out how to pitch to me. I could hit both right-handed and left-handed. And few of the boys in the neighborhood could pitch to a lefty. Drove them nuts. It was fun!

Once in a while

It doesn't happen very often, but one of the most exciting things to see in baseball is a grand slam. The bases are loaded and the batter connects with the ball. Watching that ball sail after the crack of the bat is awesome. Everybody watches in anticipation as the ball goes and goes and goes. The runners on base start running and just like that, 4 runners score.

I've only hit one, but I could tell it was good from the feel of the ball hitting the bat. I was 8 and I still remember it and oh how good it felt!

What are the odds?

Baseball is a game that statisticians love. There are stats for just about every element you can imagine. The odds of a home run are about 7.98% while the odds of hitting a Grand Slam are about 5%. But the odds of hitting a base run are 30.37%.

So, as much fun as hitting or watching a Grand Slam might be, you're not likely to see one very often. Following this, considering there are on average about 56 pitches per game, it is far more likely to see single base hits than a home run or Grand Slam.

So what's the point?

There is one, I promise! And here it is! Single base hits are far more likely to win a game than a Grand Slam. It's the same thing with WA. It is crazy exciting to have a huge sale or gain in followers or an overnight site ranking. It would sure make my day! But the game is more often won by the not quite as exciting singles...time after time, base after base. Yep! Same thing in WA. The persistence of swinging the bat, getting post after post, consistently, persistently get the consistent ranks. They get maybe not the huge sales, but they get sales more often. I would rather have many smaller sales on a frequent basis than one huge sale per month, or ack...quarter, or yikes!!......year!!! That would be so depressing!

I will always swing for the fence!

Because you don't get what you don't go for. You aim past a punch. You swing through the pitch. You aim beyond the fence. If you don't get the home run, you will likely get the base run and I will take those all day!

So here's to the boys of summer...

and the blogs we write every day. May every one be at least a base hit!

Have a great day!

Totally agree and much like all sports, the end goal is the win or the championship....but only practice, persistence and consistency, week in, week out, will get the results. It’s the small goals/wins that add strength to the big picture :)

Thanks, Jaspar! Great way to look at it! Here's to all of the little things it takes to make it happen every day! Have a great evening!
