Good Morning Wealthy Affiliate World!

Today I bring you the idiom "Third Wheel"

Meaning:

When someone refers to being a "third wheel," they're describing a situation where they feel like they don't belong or are unnecessary. It's often used in social contexts, particularly when there's a group of three people and one of them feels left out because the other two are in a romantic relationship or are closer or more focused on each other.

Origin:

The idiom "third wheel" is believed to have originated from the design of early carriages, which typically had two large wheels. A smaller wheel, often positioned in the center or towards the rear, provided stability and support. This smaller wheel, being less prominent and seemingly unnecessary compared to the main two wheels, came to represent someone who was unnecessary or superfluous in a social situation, hence the metaphorical usage of "third wheel" to describe a person who feels left out or awkward in a group of three. The idiom has since evolved to refer to anyone who feels out of place or extraneous in a particular situation.

Have you ever been in a "3rd wheel" situation? What were your feelings, thoughts, etc.?

Thanks for reading and Have a Great Day!

-Chuck

Hi Chuck! I`ve never been in that situation, it would feel awkward unless I take along my inflatable friend. 😁 Have a great day.

Tickling my funny bone ...inflatable, true

πŸ™πŸ™ All the best.

The third wheel may seem insignificant to some, but.... without it, the other two wheels wouldn't be able to work properly Chuck!!

As you can tell, I prefer the original meaning here!

Enjoy the rest of your week my friend! :-)

Hi, third wheel? I`ve never have allowed myself to be in that situation or at least psychologically accepted to be in such a situation. I have been in company of people who are romantically involved married even but not in any way feel like a third wheel.
I may be in such company probably to offer them something they need eg business advice. So you see such a scenario I can never be a third wheel.
If however the things are at a personal level I`m mindful of the phrases like: two`s a company, three`s a crowd and four`s a party.
There are options not to subject yourself or anyone else for that matter to any third wheel situation or feelings.
I can understand if that happens accidentally but we should always plan so that accidents are minimal and third wheel situations are dissolved quickly.
Thanks
So long.

I have heard this phrase " 3rd wheel" but didn't know the meaning nor I bothered to find out. Thank you for the explanation.

Ah, Chuck! I often wondered when people called someone a third wheel!

Happy Tuesday!

Jeff
