I need a non-blog based forum like guild portal forums, any advice?

I just skimmed the answers Churchx, but could you use a forum plugin? If so, there is bbforum and all you have to do is google it. It is a free wp plugin that puts a forum on your site. Take a look at it to see if that is what you need.

Outside of just searching through the official WP plugins or looking via a regular search engine, I'm not sure how to help. A forum has a big functionality and might be too complicated for a simple plugin... what's the purpose of the forum?

How do you upload a video on word press

What do you need to know?

a *NON* blog based forum like what is used on guildportal websites

Yes, but what do you need help with, specifically?

Finding one! lol, there arent any i have found on here

Let me see...but even the gaming websites have Blogs.

rt Theme 16
ThemeForest has a lot too.

Newsworld WordPress Theem

yes but its the format, maybe this will help

1. Main topic (general)
a. Sub topic
i. Discussion
1. Comment on person
ii. Blah
iii. Blah
iv. Blah
b. Sub topic
i. Same
ii. Same
iii. Same
2. Different main topic
a. Same as above
i. Same as above
3. So on and so forth

Dark Sector

ofcourse none of that posts like i had it formatted
each subtopic>discussion>comment is indented progressively to show flow of conversation

No, sorry. You can create anything so this does not help. How about giving me a website to look at the format?

http://www.guildportal.com/

this forum is kind of what im looking for a page that is JUST a forum, where topics are created then each member can create a thread on the topic.
if you go here and surf for a guild you can see what im talking about, they wont let me link directly to anything.
I built a site on there a while back you should be able to search that site for We are borg and see the forums there

Okay...had to setup and create. You can bring that website here. Why don't you have WA host it for FREE?

that was built for someone else, I have been paid for it.

Not that specific website. Another one. I just created a website there. It is mine. I can now bring it over here. Why couldn't you do the same?

because that would be theft and totally unethical.

No, it isn't. You just need someone to host...it can be there or here! Make sense? A lot of people use GoDaddy, Wix, or HostGator to create their websites. They go Premium here and bring them for WA to host.

THE DOMAIN IS NOT MINE TO MOVE OR HOST ELSEWHERE, THEY PAY FOR THAT, IT IS THEIRS. maybe this will help you understand. lets say for a second that i am your friend. you give me keys to your car in case you lose yours or are too intoxicated to drive. because i have your keys for this purpose is it okay for me to take YOUR car WITHOUT your permission and move it somewhere else that you dont want it to be?

You aren't understanding. People create FREE websites all over the place. You are FREE to move them wherever you like. I helped you so good luck with your final decision. I will still be here...

you are seriously in need of help ma'am. the website is no longer mine to control. you need to fact and law check before you give advice like that. that website has to be hosted on guildportals. the url has guildportals in it, they want that feature, if i move it here it would be STEALING! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FACT CHECK.

You are incorrect. That's okay...please move on! I do know what I am doing!

I'm looking for a forum plugin that isn't blog based, like most seem to be, that looks similar to guildforums. Anyone know what I should go with?

I want to have my forum on my main page but I can't figure out what the forum root is to have it show up there.

Hi! =))
You may want to try going to APPEARANCE then to MENU in your dashboard then look for the widgets section. There are options there where in you can manage your site =))

I checked that out but I want the actual forum on the main page and not just the widgets. Thanks though.

just the program in general is intimidating and most of the tutorials assume you know the base of the program and jump right into advanced stuff..

I like to use GIMP, it's completely free & has loads of tutorials on Youtube

It's a steep learning curve that's for sure. I would follow Mark's advice and start by using paint especially if you just want to resize images to put on your blog

Hi.

I think because PhotoShop is used "in the media industry" to tweak celeb photos for magazines etc - there is an expected level of knowledge that comes from being trained professionally through art schools etc - that's probably why the tutorials are complicated - because they assume you've gone through all that training first.

Either way, the price tag is too high for me to consider - although I understand with some new laptops you get it free.

I personally like Paint . Net (link is http://www.getpaint.net/index.html ) - which I think was developed by the same people that produced Paint for Windows. It's now an independant program.

Best thing is, it's free :) The tutorials I've found so far, have been very helpful and easy to follow.

All the best, Mark

I have microsoft publisher which usually serves my purposes well. paint is a bitmap program so things can get choppy lol. back in the day when the max you were working with was 800x600 it wasnt so bad, but your standard HD image is 1920x1080... thats a lot of pixels to deal with lol

Hi - Paint is a single layer, however Paint. Net - is so much more advanced.

It works in layers, the same way photoshop does.

Worth checking out a free program that probably does 99% of what you'd need - before paying for a full blown professional package.

Well I'm speaking for myself of course - and I'm happy with it.

All the best, Mark

ill give it a shot. Thanks!!
