Pinning Power
I've been a Pinterest fanatic for a few years, but it was for my personal use. I never really considered Pinterest as a marketing strategy for my website. That is, I dind't think that way until I took some of the lessons I learned here and applied them to my pinning strategy.
So, I applied what I learned and the results were spectacular!
It started with designing my pin. Since Pinterest is a visual search engine I looked for the right picture to use. My keyword was lupus sun sensitivity so I was looking for sunshine. Finally, I found a picture of sunrays breaking through some cloud (UV rays are dangerous for lupus patients).
I took that and applied some to the top of it. Now, for the text, instead of using the keyword for my post, I used a semantic keyword that had more pins based on entering search phrases into Pinterest itself (just like I would Google for the alphabet soup method).
For my pin, I came up with the term lupus sun exposure. Then, in my pin description I used both my post keyword and my Pinterest keyword along with a two more written into a thoughtful, engaging call to action.
The result- 2 days over 2,000 impressions and over 200 clicks.
That's right- over 200 visits to my website in 2 days for a post focusing on a keyword that only averages 140 searches a month!
Why?
I optimized my pin for Pinterest using the same principles we use for optimizing our posts for Google.
Was it a fluke?
No. I did it again today with a different pin. Using the same process, I created another pin for a different post. So far, 1,000 impressions and 91 clicks.
What's the total so far, almost 300 visits to my website with 2 pins in 2 days.
Even better, they're quality clicks because they've clicked on my internal links. Those page views have jumped up and my bounce rate has improved. And, I know that's because I published quality content that is useful to my audience.
Now, that's the power of pinning!

Actually, I pulled bits and pieces from everything I saw about Pinterest when I entered Pinterest in the search bar at the top. Then, I crossed that against all of the Entrepreneur Certification training. For example, I used the alphabet soup method in the Pinterest search bar to come up with keywords used within Pinterest. For example, lupus sun sensitivity comes up but so does lupus sun exposure. So, I included both in my pin description, but used lupus sun exposure on my pin because I saw more pins for that. Finally, I scoped out the competition by reading their descriptions and which hashtags they were using. And, I used those. Oh, and I made sure that the text on my pin was a call to action. I hope this helps. I've only been a member here for a month and can't create any trainings yet, or I would've done that.
