It's That Time Of Year Again

Here we are once again at the 31st October, last day of the month and once again time for pumpkins, dressing up, dooking for apples and nuts, catching scones that have been dipped in treacle and hung up from the ceiling, toffee apples and telling scary stories.

I always say that I would love to be in the USA at Halloween as adults and children all enter into the spirit of things and have fun with their children. I find that here in the UK, although the children love to go trick or treating, you don't really see many adults joining them and there are not as many people who have parties.

I used to like to dress up and as we call it in Scotland, go guising. In those days, nearly everyone opened their doors when you went to them and more often than not you were invited in to the house to sing a song or tell a joke. It is sad to see nowadays that there are so many people who refuse or are scared to answer their door and the ones who do, tend to keep the children standing on the doorstep.

So everyone

Halloween is a fun celebration. I remember when my kids were young what a huge deal it was.

Celebrations are always good fun, Cheryl, even though the traditions may change with the times, Alan.

Good Morning Cheryl,

Halloween is something I have never celebrated but it looks like fun. In Holland, when I was small we used to celebrate Sinterklaas on the 5th of December.
I especially like your cat picture but that is no wonder as I love cats.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Thank you, Cheryl:) I’m not a big Halloween person, but I had a ton of really cute kiddos in their costumes come by! I ran of candy after half an hour, so I think next year, I’m going to have to spend about $50-100 on the sweet stuff that makes teachers cringe the day after! A lot of hyper kids tomorrow...
Blessings:)

Halloween isn't the same as when I was growing up. Just not as safe anymore.
Happy Halloween 🎃👻

Just read the note below from Colleen, and was shocked. I am old enough to remember being a kid when trick or treat was such a wonderful thing. Now in our community, there are public places that open their doors so the kids will have plenty of places to visit. Has the world always been so unsafe, or is that a new thing? It upsets me.

Happy celebrating, Cheryl. It's not safe for children to go trick or treating in the U.S. anymore unless they know the people at the house where they visit and/or they have their parents along. It's def not safe for homeowners to open the door to just anyone either. Too many thugs are out there. Also, nobody knows if the kids or teens trick or treating are carrying guns these days. So people stay in their homes with the porch lights off and often keep the house dark on Halloween just to avoid any trick or treat visitors. A lot has changed over the years.

Have a good evening & weekend!
Colleen

Lol. I just turned the lights off to avoid any knocks. I dont even candy any more because we end with the candy as no one want to partcipate.

Is there a way to search previous questions? I seen one about adding a contact me page and cannot find it now. Thanks
