People are always asking if Amazon's Affiliate program works. As you can see in the image, it definitely does. Now I am not going to get rich anytime soon with this amount, but it does add up.
Before you try to join Amazon as an associate, you need to have some content and be established a bit or they will probably not approve you in the beginning.
All affiliate programs work if you join them with the correct niche.

Amazon is great but i would never put all my eggs in their basket - the cookie period is too short , especially when it comes to high value items.
I prefer to engage with advertisers that offer 30 day cookies especially with high value tickets items. I earn more with selling 30 items in CJ than 150 sales with Amazon - that is just my experiences anyway!

I think the problem is a lot of people when they first join wealthy affiliate they become a affiliate with Amazon and they don't make any sales in that first three months because they have not built up content and then they're kicked out of the program. You are correct. No one is going to make a bunch of money just with Amazon unless their niche includes high priced items.

I didn't get the qualification sales in the first six month and my account got closed. Nevertheless, in that time I was looking on the clicks and zeros and thinking how it would be when the zeros would change to some earnings.

Don't worry Ingus, many of us failed in the first try with Amazon. I think I had to apply a few times to get it right.
