So I had a thought..

Alright so, I know I haven't been all that active on WA for like the past month or so. In all honestly I've been working more than ever, and haven't had the motivation nor the extreme desire to come home from work and then proceed to work on a website. Laziness at its worst, I know.

Anywho, my life plan for about the past year or so has been to work my butt off, pay off my car sometime early next year, and then to save as much money as possibly so I could go to college next year to become an RD (Registered Dietitian) and live happily ever after etc etc. BUT, the other day I was looking up course information and stuff about becoming an RD. During this time, I stumbled upon a regular old one-time class/course that would basically teach me most of the nutritional information I want to know.. no college, just one class.

SO, that line of thinking led me to this conclusion: I could build up my website(s) here on WA, earn enough to support myself (and hopefully a family someday), take that nutritional class (and maybe a couple others) and I'd be golden. I wouldn't have to go to college and waste all that time/money, I'd be working from home, and I'd still be able to take classes on the things I'd like to learn. Maybe I'm being blinded by the awesomeness of this idea, but that sounds so ridiculously amazing!

Alright, so basically I want feedback on this idea. Tell me flaws, opinions, cheer me on, drag me down, whatever you want to say, I want to hear it! =D

What you learn in your RD class could be utilize within your website. I was going to say have a plan B. Earn money someway - no pressure, no deadlines of getting bills paid. And yes the stat's are around 5% but that doesn't mean your not the 5%.

I also find that the one-time class/course usually is not recognized, not easy to find jobs if you do decide to fall back on it. Yes I would go ahead with RD.

Sounds great to me! I hadn't thought of using my RD knowledge in conjunction with WA! It's starting to sound like I need to make room for both of these things in my life =] Thank you for your advice! I really appreciate it =D

OK here is the dirt, recognised qualifications will nearly always lead to to a job. Internet Marketing is a gamble only 5% or less actually make a decent living at it. Statistically it is the pits, however if you get it right the sky is the limit. An RD will probably earn above average wages and if you qualify that is pretty much a certainty. Do you want and need that security bearing in mind you could do both?

My advice would be go to college but spend 30 mins everyday on IM (you can not win a lottery without a ticket!). Hope that helps. You will have a clear conscience as regards family etc. but still retain your chance for the bigger and better life ala Kyle and Carson!

Very sound advice! I am most definitely leaning towards this idea more. I'm gonna work as hard as I can at IM for now until I start college next year and hopefully it will at least be a great source of extra money for me while I go to school. Thank you so much for commenting though! But who knows, maybe with some luck I'll become part of that 5%? =P

If you do go the college route look into taking CLEP tests. They can save you a lot of money in tuition costs by knocking out worthless introductory courses.

If you are working full time and have some disposable income maybe consider outsourcing some of the work?

I definitely am utilizing all of the money I am bringing in, unfortunately. I still have my car to pay off and a few other bills =/ But I'll definitely look into CLEP tests for when I do start college =] Thanks for the input!

Hi
You are not lazy. It can be really difficult to combine working full time and then coming home and starting again.

Question to ask yourself. As a Dietician are there specific recognized qualifications that you need for credibility and can you get these fully or partially from the course that you've seen?

Qualifications are not everything, but from a personal point of view if I was looking at a site that raised 'science and health' issues I'm interested in how credible the person is.

So if you want to take a mixtures of courses to build that credibility rather than a single course at college - and they are the right courses for what you want to promote - go for it.

As long as you set the goals and continually work towards them, there's absolutely no reason why you won't be a big success.

The very best of luck

Beverley

Sometimes I feel very lazy! Haha, but I know I work my little booty off at my full time job =] And Yes there are specific courses and things I need to do through a University in order to become an RD, I wouldn't be able to do it through a few standalone courses. But I'll probably stick with becoming an RD and use IM for extra income. Thanks so much for your advice Beverley!

Yes, I agree you should have a plan B! Go with your instincts. I took a higher paying job in 2007 and hated it, I had bad vibes when I decided and I should have gone with my gut feeling. I jumped from an IT job in one local hospital to another hospital and the staff at the new hospital were like dictators. I quit the job within 16 months and joined the railroad, which was my true ambition anyway. It was a blessing in disguise!

I think I'm gonna go ahead with becoming and RD, and IM will probably end up just being a supplement for me. Thanks though, and I'm glad you are pursuing what you love too! =D

I see too many people put college on the back burner or give up the idea of doing it because they think they have Internet Marketing in the bad. Sure you could definitely make good money at it but you should always have a plan B or stick to your original plans.

Yea I definitely don't think I have IM in the bag at all. But I'm coming to the realization that maybe my plan is slightly unrealistic. So, I'll try IM and work at it really hard for the next year or so, plan to go to school, and at the very least IM can just be a nice extra source of income for me while I'm in school. Thank you for your input though, I really appreciate it =]
