Got a forced upgrade to windows 10 overnight, anybody else?

I woke up to windows 10 this morning, not by my choice or permission. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, I do know that I don't have the ability to print anymore. Any thoughts on this?

Hi all, I have just disable the windows updater. Does that mean that I will have issues with my computer now?

Well, it is never a good idea to disable the windows updater, you will need those updates to keep everything running smoothly and secured.

With win 7, which I have still on my Laptop, I can check and see what I want to be updated right away and what can wait.

However, with win 10, you don't have this option anymore to check first, which I think is a total bummer, but I guess, windows did it because too many people just didn't update anymore, for what reason however.

So my advice, don't disable it, it won't help you in the long haul.

Doing IT and computer work I know you will be fine. On the windows machine I like to set it to download updates but then I get to choose when to install them. It stops it from constantly updating and restarting ect. It can also prevent bad updates from being downloaded.

I had another computer that I didn't update for a year and it still worked fine. I went ahead and updated it at that point of course but it still worked. It may also prevent you from getting the auto upgrade to 10 if you aren't on it already. I'm not 100% for sure on that but I know a program that will stop it if you don't want 10.

Thanks for this. I just don't like the forced bit! I know a few people who have had it downloaded onto their computers who are having huge problems with it for their other programs. I understand what you are saying though and will keep an eye on how it affects my PC..

Probably cos they won't continue security updates on older version of windows. So eventually you'll be forced to upgrade or endanger your computer.
Now that I have a Mac, I barely recall the upgrading we had to do all the time in order to be secure.

Thank you for the information. I'm going to work with it and see how it goes.

I've heard this happen to a lot of people. It will happen if you have automatic updates enabled on your computer. That's why I downloaded a program called never 10. It takes out the piece of code that causes the update to happen.

Good luck!

Thank you.

You or someone may have clicked on one of Microsoft's constant introductory offers. I installed it and no problems. You just have to get used to Microsoft Edge enhancing IE. The ensemble and choice of login screen images is great

I have been using for quite a while and no issues so far. What I love with Windows 10 is the automatic update on security, the windows defender and it really works well.

You can reverse the "supposed upgrade" back to what you had. Then, I suggest trying GWX Control Panel. This will stop the nagging and auto update. I have been using it now for quite a while and it works well. http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

That's what I did. I downloaded it last night and had it erase Microsoft 10 stuff. When I decide I need to get it, then I'll get it. It shouldn't be their choice.

I hate Windows 10. Cheers

Why does dell INSIST we upgrade to Windows 10?

Profits; easier for them to track what we are doing, if everyone has 10 they only have to put out patches for 10 and only have to provide support for 10. It is really annoying though.

I have Windows 10 but I don't use it. I use google chrome.

I get regular upgrades from Win 10 at least every 2 weeks and I have no problems going forward.
I am also on the 'Insiders' Group, so they automatically send the new build and do the upgrade in my off-peak hours (2am - 5am).

Thank you for the information. I'm going to work with it and see how it goes.

You will find it actually quite efficient with the way things are laid out. It cuts down on keystrokes and clicks.

It does take a bit of getting used to but you will still be able to print. Have a play around with it for a while :)

Thank you for the information. I'm going to work with it and see how it goes.
