Is there a benefit to having multiple websites with specific niches?

I love my website, I love what I discuss on there. I dicuss dog products, hiking/running with dogs, traveling with dogs, hiking high peaks, making vegan food, cbd oil, holistic things. It is my definitely of my life and what I love.

My question is- Is it acceptable to put everything I love into this one website? I can't imagine having multiple websites and feeling that genuine about each of them.

Just putting out my feelers!

Any advice/suggestions you have are so welcome!

Thank you so much,

Ciara

Just keep your web site the way it is. Later if you desire to open another then you can do it. I was dumb and started 2 right way. I thought " If one is good, then 2 must be better." I wish I had waited. It slows me down. If I do something on one web site then I have to go do it on the other.

General rule of thumb is to keep your website on topic. However, the reality of internet marketing is that many strategies can work! So you could essentially try other topics and see if you can rank any of them.

Some people do create another website under their name to represent them as a person where they can share all the things they love. The related topic is the person themself.

Here's an idea for you:

Create a free siterubix website and put all of the things you love on the home page.

This website could be just be a 1 page website with:

product name
image (with affiliate link if possible)
short description why you love it
affiliate link

Then repeat...

Fill up your entire home page with this format of products you love. And when it makes sense, just link people to this one page when the products / topics. Then people can get connected with your product recommendations aka affiliate links that way.

The goal with this site would NOT to be rank it. So you wouldn't worry about adding a bunch of SEO content to get it to rank. Ideally, this website would not require much time. It would just be your personal sharing page when it makes sense to refer a FB group member to it. And you'd just keep adding products to this one homepage.

I got this idea from Robert, boomergp08. His training below is worth the read. Lesson 4 talks about this website idea. I might steal this idea :)

Wow! That is a great suggestion.

I have already purchased a second domain and am really loving having both. It keeps things lively and new for me.

I love this idea though and think it makes perfect sense! I will be reading his training for sure on this!

Again, thank you for the awesome tips. I surely appreciate it all.

Good for you for already having two websites :) Keep me posted on your progress for sure!

Clara,
When and only when you are ready to diversify
into something else do so - until you have the
feeling of wanting it keep it simple and stay with
one site.
Happy New Year and a prosperous 2019,
Susan

Thank you Susan!

If I decide to continue on one website or now to build- would it be possible to transfer posts from one website to another (like a cut and paste sort of deal)

Happy New Year to you as well

Much love,

Ciara

Ciara,
That would be considered duplicate content by Google -
moving content from one website to another unless it
be for the whole domain is never a good idea because
of this.
Moving from a siterubix to a .com is alright because you
are moving from a subdomain to a purchased domain
with more authority.
When duplicate content can come into play I would not
want to take the chance.
Susan

Even if you erase it from the other website first?

Yes, once it is indexed for a site then when you try to place
it on another they can consider that duplicate content :(
Sad but true.
Sorry.

So interesting! Okay, very good to know! I think I have a game plan in mind then!

I appreciate all of your help!

Ciara

Ciara,
Anytime - now realize this is my opinion and what I have
learned from the more experienced members here when
copying material from one website to another :)
Susan

I absolutely trust you! I appreciate it too, so much!

Do not go to narrow and small niches, you will regret it later if you do so. The reason is very simple, you will end up by not having material to write about. You will have to expand the site into sub-niches that are not compatible with the url and site title. So you will be creating some Frankenstein site. The alternative is that the site will die out if you do not keep adding the stuff. Yet another reason is that it becomes very boring writing about the same micro-niche stuff.

It is true that narrow niche sites convert better but this is meaningless in long run. Those who advise you to go narrow will have to learn from their mistakes as I did.

I am telling this from my own experience with several micro niche sites on one side, and a very broad niche site on the other side, so I can easily compare, but it is up to you.

This is very insightful- thank you!

I don't think my niches are too narrow, I think I have just clumped too many together. My initial niche was running and hiking with my dogs and the gear that allows us to do that.

It has morphed into a wellness page discussing health topics (cbd oil, vegan lifestyle, etc), and then also my running and hiking.

Does this seem too different to have two different pages?

Thank you so much,

Ciara

Yes they look different enough to me, the topics do not fit perfectly together, and finding a name to cover both might be difficult but doable.

It is easy to make mistake and think that you have plenty of stuff. Ask yourself if you will have enough material and inspiration to write within each of them separately for years, to write hundreds of posts.

Regardless of what you decide, choose urls and sites names that allow you to diversify them later, you might need it.

Hi Ciara

One niche per website is better as then you’re only targeting a specific audience which will mean you get more visitors to your site
More visitors will mean making more money through affiliate links or Google ads
Hope that helps! :)

Okay- very simply put! Do you ever find that it seems less genuine to have multiple websites? I guess my worry is that one website will become too specific and then I won't have enough to write on there.

Just thoughts- thank you so much!

Ciara

Hi Ciara

It won’t be less genuine, you just need to know who your target audience is. Don’t worry about it being too specific, it’s better to stick to one niche, than trying to target a larger audience

You could have one website about your dogs/ products related to dogs. And another website about health/ being vegan? That’s just an idea :)

Kate

Hey Kate!

That is exactly what I was thinking too! Yay- and both of my websites will sort of sound similar that way when I relay that I am the owner of both of them, they will resemble each other in some way.

Thank you so much-- I appreciate it beyond belief!

Hi Ciara

You’re welcome! :) Glad you found my ideas helpful, yes and they can still be similar!
Heres to a great 2019!!

Kate

Hi Ciara,

Yes, if you concentrate on one of your passions at a time you will be amazed at the amount of content you can create. You will be amazed about at the creativity you'll create with each passion.

All the best,

Diane

Thank you! I definitely have a lot of passions, but they all seem to tie in with one another so I'm trying to figure out where to draw the line!

Much love,

Ciara

The best advice that I can give, is to keep a website for each niche. The reason for this is because your visitors will be looking for specific information.

For example, you said you have a website in relation to dog products. Mostly, your visitors would ONLY be interested in your website because they have dogs. If they find your info valuable, they would go ahead and look around at other articles you have, and you are more likely to make affiliate sales that way.

Because your website is TARGETED to a certain customer.

But if you mix it all in, not all hikers will have a dog and not all dog parents will like hiking, causing your website's "readability" rate to decrease, your bounce rate would be horrible and thus, Google will not rank your articles as well.

Additionally, that is going to affect your sales and income form your website.

That's why I would advise keeping your niches on separate websites. Hope this helps... :)

Reyhana

Okay wow! That was an awesome interpretation of everything.

When do you know when to draw the line though? If I have a specific page just for hiking with your dogs and then a page just for hiking (gear, mountains to hike, etc) couldn't those be two different pages within the same site?

Thank you for your explanation, I seriously appreciate it so much!

Much love,

Ciara

Hiking with dogs will call for different products compared to when you’re hiking alone or with other “humans” for a lack of better word, lol. So “hiking eith dogs” is a different niche.

So your niche around “hiking with dogs” will call for humans to use different products that will make it easier to hike with dogs. For example, there may be food or drink bowls specific for dogs when you’re hiking with them, compared to the person hiking alone or with other humans, who wouldnt need such products.

There may be more durable leashes that can brave the elements that humans hiking alone wouldnt need.

There may be scratch-resistant tents made especially for hiking with dogs that wouldnt be necessary for humans hiking without dogs.

So as you can see, “hiking with dogs” is a niche and “hiking gear” is another niche.

I hope this helps.

Reyhana

It does! I think I will have hiking be my niche and extend it to have hiking with dogs as a page and plain old hiking as another page!

Thank you!

Ciara

I dont understand what you mean with having separate pages as each review would be a different post about different products.

Forgive me for misunderstanding.

Literally speaking you can Ciara, but isn't recommended.

Is always a good idea to create separate sites for each niche. otherwise it could be confusing both for humans and search engines.

Okay- thank you.

I'm trying to figure out when to draw that line. How broad can my niche be before I need to make a new website.

Thank you,

Ciara

The narrower the better. A well targeted audience means higher conversion rates.

The point: niche = a specific interest area ... and obviously, vegan, hiking or dog products are different areas
