Useful Twitter tools
Hello fellow WA members! I've just started lesson 4 where it's time to kick off social media! I've been working with social media for a few years now for a large company and have learned a few things about Twitter and Facebook. Unfortunately for Facebook, it's not cheap and hard to generate "likes" on your page without reaching out to your friends.
The good news though, is that there are some great free tools for Twitter that will help you grow your following, increase your Klout, and drive more people to your website. Here are a few tools that I have had lots of success with both personally and on a corporate level:
For increasing your following: While creating and sharing good content is key, there are a few ways to boost your following that are FREE! One is to just directly follow people that are interested in your niche. Just do a search for them in Twitter and go to the "people" tab. A faster way to do this is to use a site called JustUnfollow.com. I have been using this site for a while to grow my personal following. It shows you everyone that you follow that don't follow you back so that you can keep your account from having too high a follower:following ratio. It also allows you to "copy followers" from other accounts. For example, if there is a bigger authority than you on Twitter, you can type in their @ and copy their followers. Boom. Done.
Many people on Twitter follow for follow and so just following them will get you more followers until you have a big enough following to allow your current followers to promote you themselves through retweets and favorites.
It also allows your to search for a keyword to grow your following. Just type in your niche in the search and add the people that pop up. Once a day, you can add up to 50 new followers (you might have to tweet about how awesome JustUnfollow is, but you can delete it immediately and still get the perk to follow more people). This is super helpful when first starting out on Twitter and you don't have many (or any) followers. Slow and steady will help you build your following.
As for monitoring and interacting, you could also check out HootSuite (hootsuite.com). HootSuite lets your monitor multiple "streams". A stream is anything like your home feed on twitter, DM inbox or outbox, a keyword search, mentions for your name or any other name. Pretty much anything you can search on Twitter can be a stream. This becomes more useful once you have more followers or your niche has several keywords that you want to keep track of.
You might want to also consider scheduling your posts so that you don't have to manually tweet every time you want to share something. I suggest something like klout.com or bufferapp.com. They are both great sites but I prefer Klout since it also tracks your online influence and how each of your posts performs.
Whatever you choose use, make sure that you are sharing relevant, interesting content and you can't fail! Good luck out there!
