Not Hearing Through the Noise
How many of us can be silent?
Sure, you can stop talking, stand still, stop moving, but what’s going on in your head? Are there voices telling you to get moving, you’re wasting time, hurry up, you should be doing something?
Even though it’s been made a bit of a joke, what are you supposed to do when you get lost in your car? Although many of us don’t, we all know logically we’re supposed to stop and ask for directions. But, unfortunately, many of us believe this to be a sign of weakness or stupidity. And the same goes for quieting the mind; to do so suggests either a lack of intelligence or worse, laziness. Heaven forbid someone stop organizing, categorizing, archiving, and planning, even for a moment.
While all these things are appropriate in their context, they are not the end-all, be-all of our lives, regardless of what the popular media tells us. The evidence of this is all around us; if being in constant movement is so good for us, why are so many hard-working people so unhappy and so many supposedly “unsuccessful” people so content with their lives? Even when the “go-getters” plan their yearly vacation they tend fill it with activities, as if being relaxed means they might miss out on something.
How many of us spend half our vacations recording it for later viewing, instead of just experiencing the moment when we’re in it? In many cases we end up doing the same things we could have done back home, only under a more picturesque backdrop. If we could just learn to quiet our minds, sit comfortably, eyes closed, and ‘hear’ our surroundings, we might have a better chance for rest and relaxation at home.
There is beauty to be found everywhere, and with beauty comes wisdom, because beauty is the appreciation of truth, and wisdom comes from appreciation. In other words, we gain wisdom from that which we find beautiful. Wisdom always comes to those who ask for it, however they have to be able to hear it. But, like having a conversation with another person, we can't really hear what is being said if we’re talking. This is just as true for what’s going on in your head.

God, the universe, or to whomever you pray wants to share with you the solutions to your problems. The logic behind this is inescapable. Problems cause difficulties, which is another way of saying imbalance, or disharmony, and it will do whatever it can to correct this disharmony, and return the universe to a balance because of the law of minimal effort, which the universe always strives to follow.
The connection with the universe (or your favourite deity) can only exist in the present moment. To the universe, there is neither past nor future; everything happens in the present. Liking tuning your radio to catch the station you want, your thoughts are the static that is found outside of the range of its frequency. By quieting the mind, we allow the universe to come to us, to tune our minds to the proper wavelength, and hear all that is, including the answers we seek. We only have to trust, and to learn to listen.
But, as always, it’s entirely up to you.
(Feel the)Love, (see the) light, and (you will find) the strength to be more.

Peace is where we become enlightened. Noise covers the inspiration we sometimes need to carry on. Life has a way of being noisy, doesn't it?
Thanks for the words of wisdom, my friend.
Mac
Daniel, you are a great fan, and I am as inspired by your patronage as you seem to be about my writings. Thank you so much.
You are welcomed my friend. Just keep on giving us lessons like you do. You could write a pretty powerful book from these concepts. I'm really impressed with the reading as much as it has been helping me through tough times.
This blog is absolutely in line with an old correspondence course, The Master Key System. I find I really should do the exercises in it because, though I can do progressive relaxation, quieting the mind is not as easily done.
You really write beautifully and I jumped at the sight of your username. As I expected, another well-done post!
Cheering,
Daniel
I have not yet been able to get a microphone, but still working on it. Yes, I just put the word out for this blog post so others will see it.

Wonderful post. One thing that you mentioned that has been very prevalent with the many people I have worked with over the years is the "getting lost example". People are too proud to ask for directions. People feel weak and incapable if they ask for directions. I mean, I do the same thing when I am lost.
The same thing happens when people are trying to learn something new. "I am stupid if I have to ask a question about this already". This is how people feel and I have seen it lead so many people to failure over the years...people that would have otherwise been very successful. Now they will never know.
Don't be too proud! This will only serve as a hindrance.
Thanks for the reminder Michael!
Thank our parents and ESPECIALLY our school teachers for that. It has been hammered into our minds that to fail in school meant incompetence. Takes years to unlearn that for us older folks. That's where those feelings about one's self came from for many. Ever wore the dunce cap because you misspelled the word cat? Get laughed at when making a mathematical error on the blackboard...in front of the whole class? Get sent to the first grade when you're in the fourth, to sit at a desk that is too small for you for the day? I had it all.
Even then, I used to act up.
They also used to tape your mouth with masking tape for talking and pull your desk up against the teacher's desk for making sounds. I had the gall to draw on the side of the teacher's desk and then get sent to the Mother Superior! Ouch. She used to slap in the face! Another would drill his finger into your chest when you messed up some how.
So glad thing are very different today! But the legacy of it all still haunts the minds of many.
