First you have to admit there is a solution to your problem

My husband is a diabetic. For year he has complained about his high sugar reading and being overweight. It is funny that you can tell a person what will help them with this situation and they say, “Yah right.”

The day finally came and he said. “Ok what do I have to do?” Now that I have his attention we are ready to do some healthy changes. A couple of the biggest changes was using whole wheat not white. It took a while but the changes started to make a difference right away. Change sugar intake. There are so many different types of sugars and substitutes that it is so confusing.

He found he could have small amounts of sweets and be ok with it. As we took more sugared items out of the diet like soda, he didn’t crave as much and things became much sweeter to the taste. Now more water is consumed and he reads a lot of labels. We found a new sugar substitute Stevia. It is an herb and doesn’t change in taste depending in what you use it in.

With the wheat change, sugar intake decreased and reading labels he has dropped excessive weight and is now off of one of his medications. The biggest issue was an open mind that he could make a change.

We find new things each day that makes a life changing event. As I continue this journey with this medical problem, I will keep you in the loop.

Change is based on choice. I'm glad your husband chose wisely.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Carole, change is very progressive. Irv.

Change is difficult, especially bad habits. Taking it in steps and breaking one habit at a time also helps. Well done for your health achievements.

Thanks It is hard to get someone to listen sometimes but he is getting better
Carole

Realising that you need to change is a big step...well done for him!

Appreciate it
Carole

Stevia is a great alternative :)

Thanks I appreciate the feed back
Carole

I carry small packets of Stevia in my purse. And I am finding that more and more coffee shops and restaurants are providing Stevia, instead of just the artificial sweeteners.

Thanks for sharing.

It has become one of the best sweeteners I have found. I even cook with it.

That is great Carole. You are a good wife and helpmate to him. Hope he appreciates that. Have you ever heard of a grain called Spelt? This grain is what I use. I was a sufferer of migraine headaches. It was suggested to me by a homeopathic person in a healthfood store to eliminate white rice, flour, potatoes, etc. That is how I was able to help my health and I found out that the wheat bread I was eating contributed also to my head pain. I don't miss it at all. Do you juice yet? Green veggies with some berries is yumm. I still have a task of getting my husband to eliminate grits, white potatoes, and processed cold cuts from his diet. Some men can be stubborn. Here's to your continued success eating healthy. Enjoy.

My husband could not believe how much better he has felt and the weight loss has been great.
