Fired by Amazon Associates. Now What?
INTRODUCTION
Just received the dreaded E-Mail from Amazon Associates. "Since you have not achieved the required sales in the last 6 months your account is being closed".
Time for reviewing the situation...
The truth is that I signed up with Amazon Associates too early, before I had significant traffic on my website. But this apparent setback has a silver lining. It forces me to sharpen my plans.
WHAT TO DO NOW
Upon reflection, I see now that I should focus on becoming an affiliate of a Company that makes the products that are the best fit for my niche, improvingindoorairquality.com. I should use a pinpoint target and not a shotgun approach such as linking with a multitude of choices like offered by Amazon. Being an expert my recommendation or affiliation should be just for one product, the one I recommend as the best in class.
WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY
I applied to two manufacturers which I believe to have the best products. These products are expensive, but that could be a plus. One of the Companies has not replied yet. The other Company approved me, not directly, but through a broader sales organization, Shareasale.com. Now I have added several links on different posts to one product that the Company offers. I also found in Shareasale another merchant that offers supplies, air filters, that could also be of interest to visitors to my website. I have added their link to a specific post that discusses air filters.
UNEXPECTED BENEFIT OF JOINING SHAREASALE.
I have two additional websites that focus on my two other niches, small business and retired persons. I will now add links to these websites from the same account. Furthermore, getting analytics on my links from a single source is another plus. No sales yet but clicks are coming in!
CONCLUSION
Being fired by Amazon Associates is not the end of the world. It forced me to review my approach and focus my content around specific products. Recommending only one product in each product category will enhance my status as expert on the subject. To be an authority you must speak clearly as an authority and be specific.

This is one area where the initial training really falls down and desperately need changing. You MUYST have good traffic before applying to Amazon and this is not made clear in the training.
Having said that, you can re-apply, but unless your products are only or mainly Amazon-based, as you';ve discovered, you can often do much better elsewhere.
Amazon does not value its affiliates. But then, it's so big it doesn't need to.

I should be getting mine from Amazon.ca within a couple of weeks too. It really is too early for me to be looking for affiliates. I had to try though because the training demanded it.
I just got mine today too lol! We can reapply and will most likely be reaccepted is what I have read in other answers.

Amazon is certainly not the be all end all. There is a HUGE world outside of of Amazon within the affiliate marketing space and 10,000's of billion dollar retailers and brands you can promote as an affiliate, and 100's of millions of products/services.
Sometimes it takes being "fired" to wake up to the real opportunities out there.
You are so right ! Being "fired" was a wake up call.The lazy way ,relying just on Amazon, is not the way to success.
