My theme (Heiro) has little red boxes above each post that shows how many have commented on that particular post. I want to get rid of them.

Hey Cedric,

Using Inspect Element (right-mouse clicking on web page) in my Firefox browser, I was able to determine what the red nearly square read number is that sits beside the post titles. See 1st screen print below...

As you can see, the CSS label for that is. span.comment-link so you could Google search to find out how to remove it... which is what I did... see 2nd screen print below... and, as you can see in my screen print below... there appears to be a potential plugin that you can use to remove that.

DO BACK UP YOUR WEBSITE BEFORE beginning to try ANY fix.

PLUS... do read through some of the posts offered to you should you decide to run the same search that I have shown in my 2nd screen print. In case someone has found a better method.

Having said all of that, personally, the Heiro theme appears to be not very user-friendly as sooooo many members have complained about one thing or another. I wouldn't even contemplate using Heiro.

Perhaps GeneratePress would be a much more user-friendly theme and their layout IS similar enough to the Heiro theme that you may find GeneratePress a whole lot easier to use.

Hope you find this helpful.

it may be a setting in appearance - customize in your wordpress dashboard
good luck finding it
phil

I looked there, Phil. Couldn't find anything. I may just have to live with it. I get lots of positive feedback on the simplicity of the theme.

had a quick look and as you say there is nothing in there - i thought i ad a site with that on it but it turned out to be twentyfourteen theme - similar but different....but no red comments box
the other theme i think looks brilliant if you are looking for a plain
theme is astra - it doesn't have the contrast bar but can be modified as you want.
my site has the logo, site title and a sidebar
good luck
phil
if you want to change your theme - click on appearance themes -add new ( at the top) - click on popular and see what you want.

Thanks, Phil. I've been playing around with changing themes, but I'm intimidated by the backup process.

thats a process to get used to
i would advise wp clone plugin and make a backup and download the file locally, if you can (right click and save as...on the created zip file)
i have tried all in one wp migration and found it failed more times than it worked.
but worth trying with wp clone.
good luck
phil
you can always install the theme on a trial site and see how it looks, get used to the control panel and see what can be changed.

Good idea, thanks.

Some of my AdSense ads are same product as my affiliate link.

Hi - I don't use Adsense, but doesn't it display ads targeted to the person who is looking at your site? In other words, what I see may be different from what you or another person sees.

I have no idea. I just noticed that one ad in particular links to a competitor of one of my biggest affiliate links. I'm waiting for Trish to tell me how I can take the ads off posts that feature affiliate products. I hesitate to kill them altogether because they are already making money for me. Not much, but some.

Hey Cedric,

This way, no matter whether your Adsense ad is clicked on or your affiliate link is clicked on... you earn $$$.

If you would prefer to earn from your affiliate link then perhaps simply remove the Adsense shortcode from pages/posts with affiliate links that you do not want conflict with.

Hope you find this helpful.

That is exactly what I needed to know. How do I remove the AdSense short code?

How did you add your Adsense codes to your posts?
Perhaps you used Marion's suggestion to add your Adsense Ads... maybe: I don't use Adsense as I don't tend to trust sites that do use Adsense as the ads are usually plastered alllll over the pages and posts which discredits the content in my eyes.

I was concerned about that. I limited their placement. I will keep an eye on them for a couple of weeks before I make up my mind whether or not to keep them.

Some sites I have visited lately have sprinkled the ads so sparingly (sidebar had Adsense ads too) that it did not bother me... so, don't make a decision based on one person's (me) opinion... just use the info as "food for thought".

If you are making money with Adsense than STICK with it! And do NOT close it down else you may find that you need to re-qualify... so one other member discovered the hard way.

Okay. Thanks.

When logged into my site, google analytics shows me as 0 active users. It used to show that I was logged in.

That happens to me too, and kinda made me take the results with a grain of salt

I deleted it and installed it again from scratch. It works fine now. I've just got to give it something to do!

Good luck 🍀

Thanks. So far, so good.
