Do You Want To Be An Entrepreneur Or A Technician
My son is also a member of WA. He claims it is hard to come up with content for his blog. even though, he is going thru the training he claims he still struggles. So, I thought about some ways to help.
Therefore, here's my take on being an entrepreneur with Wealthy Affiliates,
Military Training
A few years ago I was in the military and I was studying to get my airframes and powerplant's license. To clarify, this is a license that is required by the FAA to work on civilian aircraft i.e. the airlines.
While I was in the Navy, I worked as a powerplant guy. That is to say, I worked on the engines and fuel systems of jets and helicopters.
I went to school for it, that's what I knew, and I had done it for eight years. I was good at what I did.
However, I was weak in the airframe section I knew enough to get permission from the FAA to take the test. In other words, the FAA requires you to have permission and to have some knowledge before you start taking the test.
Therefore, on test day there was a general test, an airframes test, and a power plants test. Now take a guess at which test I did the best on.
Was it the general test, the airframe, or was it power plants that I'd studied for eight years.
You might be surprised at the answer. Consequently, I passed the general, I almost aced the airframe I think I got a 96 on it. However, I failed the power plant and why is that?
The Technician in You
When you ask yourself why I failed at what I knew best? You will see the answer. That is to say, if you're an expert in a field, sometimes, it is real hard to write about something because Mr technician stays involved.
You see, my problem was when I took that powerplant test I questioned the test and question
the answers. Because I knew better.
Fast forward to my experience in Wealthy Affiliates. I've found that it's easier if you write from your heart not from your head. Don't get me wrong, knowledge in a subject is very important.
But, ask yourself who is your audience? My point is just talk to your audience you don't have to be a technician, you have to be upfront and genuine.
Now, I realize that I'm new at affiliate marketing and blogging. That is to say, I haven't done it as long as some wonderful people in this family. I also realize you may already know this but someone needs to read this.
Entrepreneur Or A Technician
Michael Gerber in his book the E myth talks about being a technician when you need to be an
entrepreneur. So, which are you an entrepreneur or a technician?
That's a big question. You see a technician knows how to write and knows what to write about. On the other hand, an entrepreneur owns the business, runs the business, and knows
everything about your business.
Sometimes, you need to be able to walk away from the technician and look back on the business. and perhaps your writing will be a little better and a littler easier.

Hey Chuck, such good advice - be upfront and honest. Sure focusses the mind. Thank you.
Pleased to meet you Chuck. I also like your advice and while it's true we may have heard it before, you have stated it in a completely new way with the illustration of the technician.
This rings true for me. I am very passionate about my subject but when it comes to writing about it I tend to turn into the technician so I constantly need to re-read and listen to how I come across.
I also enjoyed reading your personal experience very much. You have a nice way of writing and engaging your reader.
Have a great day and tell your son to keep on struggling... it's a sign that he is alive, he's not giving up and he is doing something worthwhile!

Yes, I related to this also. I find myself turning into a technician. It takes me forever to finish my writing. I am writing more and more from the heart and writing as if I am talking to someone. If I am writing an email, it goes quickly and they are easy to write.
Thanks for this, great blog!
Pam

All true Chuck ...
This is especially true when you look at the purpose of a business; which is defined as:
"to offer value (through products and/or services) to customers, who pay for the value with cash or equivalents. Minimally, the money received should fund the costs of operating the business as well as provide for the life needs of the proprietor."
The key mindset point for writing is that the role of an entrepreneur, through running a business, is to offer value to customers.
Implicit in "offering value" is knowing your prospect well enough to be able to deliver what interests them using words that they understand.
Best wishes
Richard
very well stated Thank you
