Do Me A Favor. Go Waste Some Money

...on yourself!

Have you treated/rewarded yourself lately?

I'm sure you have made the achievements to justify it.

Let me go back a little bit. I've been working away for some months on a new project, and on September 27th it "went live". A few days later on October 1st, I made my first sale from this project, to the sum of $125 (all mine).

Obviously, I was pretty happy with this and am now in the process of turning that into many more sales, but that's not the point of today's little story.

Whilst *celebrating* on gchat with another WA member, they said to me. "Go waste that $100 on a nice dinner date".

My reply was actually: "Well..I have start-up costs to pay off" (Every time I had a new fee, I told myself I would spend my first earnings paying it off)

Their reply was: "You've worked hard for the last few months. You'll get more sales, but you'll never get another FIRST sale."

I guess that sold me. I quite liked the idea of a celebratory dinner anyway. My girlfriend did too. Last night we went out and spent $150 (why not go nuts?) on a nice dinner for two.

It Got Me Thinking

It doesn't just have to be a big $100 + sale or income that deserves rewarding does it?

Here are some things you could (and should) celebrate:

  • Getting your site online in the first place (have yourself a beer/glass of wine/something similar)
  • Getting your first sale (the income might not be much, but definitely do something to treat yourself!)
  • Your first 100 unique visitors to your site
  • Your first 200 visits in a month
  • Your first $100 month (Take Benjamin Franklin out for a date, he's a classy guy)

Obviously, if you have bills to pay, fine, you can't go nuts. But remember what I was told.

"You'll never get another FIRST sale" (Unless you like starting again a lot like I do.)

Also..it's very important to reward yourself and keep going.

Let's celebrate something together, what have you achieved lately? Write it below.

Congrats on your first sale and treating yourself on your accomplishments is a must, wishing you many, many more!

thanks :) same to you of course!

Great article. Great looking teppanyaki.Yum. Nothing like that in okie land, but I did pay myself for a return home to Oz. ^_~

Teppanyaki was next door. I had the steak! Paying yourself for a flight home is even cooler!

I seem to waste money on myself daily ;)

feel free to waste some on me. I'm easy.

LoL - Good for you. As a coach I always advise people that they should celebrate different milestones and yet it's something I fail miserably to do myself. Good for you - glad you both enjoyed it.

Thanks :) It's been a while since I spent so much on myself :)

$150 on dinner for two in Taiwan? Were you dining on gold plated steak by chance? :)

LOL. Taiwan has its share of premium venues. This was in the Regent hotel. Soup, salad bar, bread, cheese, 8oz steak, desert buffet, coffee x 2

Ah yes it's important to celebrate milestones in our businesses! You've been grinding away at this for a while, you deserve it! Plus, I'm sure your gf greatly appreciated the fancy meal :)

I launched a website for her too so it was a joint celebration, and she did appreciate it indeed :)

Congrats on your achievement. Rewarding yourself can be fun.

Looks like you had a wonderful dinner if the pic is representative of their fare.

It doesn't do it justice actually!

Not so much steak any more- had a fantastic lunch at the hog and Bones today, good barbecue.

There you go then :)

Great ideas. I will be honest and say that when I earned my first WA commission from someone who made an annual payment I was so excited that I went out and bought the theme I had recently discovered...and was salivating over. Good idea to reward yourself. I also took the family for ice cream with the next occurrence. Such fun. Thanks for this, Dom.

It's also a great way to motivate yourself for more sales too. The money just seems so much more REAL!

Excellent point and well said.

At my age every new day is cause for a celebration of sorts..

lots of steak dinners for you then?
