Ranking - the real deal for a slow poke!

Back in November 2020 when a friend of mine called me to introduce me to what he said was an "affiliate" programme, I had absolutely no idea what that was. The immense world of affiliate programmes was foreign to me and I listened as he explained the advantages of earning a second income through Wealthy Affiliate - to which he had signed up in October, a few days before our conversation. To be honest, I didn't quite grasp all that he'd explained, but my interest was peaked at the prospect of supplementing my current income. We'd both just turned 50 in 2020, and the mortality bell was certainly starting to ring a lot louder than in my 40s. Having worked in the corporate world for about 30 years, the need for something more had been at the back of my mind for some time...I just didn't know what that something was.

So, in the midst of my demanding 40+ hours per week day job, working remotely and sitting behind my laptop for the majority of the day, attending virtual meetings, wrapping up quarter 3 and reporting on all my achievements in the midst of the pandemic, I signed up with WA and immediately opted for the Premium package. When I signed up, I was ranked at 380K+. No clue what that even meant initially. Started training - which meant one lesson in the evening before bed. Almost immediately...no, I take that back...immediately, there was a barrage of emails flooding my inbox from Wealthy Affiliate. People from all over the world welcoming me to WA and wishing me well and offering assistance in the event that I needed it. Never in the history of technology, have I ever seen so many emails at one time! Phew!

Guided by my friend who advised that I should follow affiliates, comment, like, blog and complete training so that my rank would go up, I honestly felt overwhelmed by it all in the first 6 weeks. During Christmas, while WA emails kept coming in and my friend's rank kept going up - I wondered whether Thanksgiving and Christmas had been replaced by WA-branded turkey and elves! AlI the while, I 'meandered' through, building my website literally step by step guided by each lesson. Meanwhile, my dear friend, whom we shall call JP, flew up the ranks like a bullet - 38 blogs later and over 1,700 friends in his network, he's in the 100 top affiliates with a mentor who's in the top 10! Again...Phew!

So mid-January, I'm on my fourth blog post, written 5 articles, requested and given feedback and have finally reached lesson 10 in Level 2 that talks about 'Boosting your WA ranks' - I now rank at 43K with 153 friends in my network. One high-ranker that I follow also commented that I might just be moving a tad slowly and offered assistance if I needed it to quicken my pace up the ranks.

Two and a half months in, I have learned the ins and outs of building a website from scratch. My goal in the coming week is to finish it and get it ranked on Google. I will commit to commenting and encouraging newbies like myself who might have some trepidation about what lies ahead in terms of the technical learning, and of course, increase my network.

This snail is plodding along, but just like in the tale about the tortoise and the hare, it takes more than speed to win the race!
