So, I have a lot of white on my page, and would like to organize it with widgets on a right sidebar to take up some space. I will do just that in the 'widget editor' on wordpress,

i need to change my i have the whole left side of my site is blank. it only allows me to use the right side and footers. I am not sure why

thanks for the responses everyone but I just went for the theme change. I wanted a more lively theme anyway, and a different font. plus the theme allows me much more customation options. 2 problems with the new- no tag line and can't edit the navigation. do I have to code both?

Ok the tag line you will find under Settings - then General -

As for navigation depending on what you want to do - go to Appearance - then Customize - Or go through Appearance - then Menu

I had that problen to, I changed theme, before you decide to go for changing theme, I have to worn you, all your content you have to ajust, f.i. anjirai (mine now) has two sidebars, left and right, greetings Loes

I believe you need to go into your theme layout first. You can set it to have just a right side bar, or left and right side bars. Then you go into your WordPress widgets to place them in the order that you want them. Let me know if you need more help.

where do I access theme layout?

This theme does not have this functionality - it is set as a the sidebar to the right and the main content area.

You have 2 places you can put your widgets in the sidebar and in the footer.

Twenty thirteen comes with 2 columns the main content area and your side bar column.

As soon as you add your widgets things will be adjusted - your content will move to the left and there will be about an inch or so between the right border of your content and the sidebar.

well I tried that and the content just ran right into the widgets.

I installed it on my test site and everything worked fine -
