The Wealthy Affiliate platform is a great place to blog your WA posts about your thoughts, journey, aspirations, and successes. It's also a place to post your questions with the entire community. As you embark on your blogging journey, starting strong and establishing yourself as an authority in your niche is essential. And that's where pillar posts come into play.

This post will discover what and why it's beneficial for all bloggers like yourself to begin their blogging adventure with one.

What is a Pillar Post?

So, let's talk about pillar posts. Have you ever wondered what they are, why, and if we need to write about them? The pillar post concepts are not new. There is a lot of information on the internet. The idea is to write a unique pillar post that has not been reported anywhere.

Cluster content and pillar content include pillar posts in a content strategy. The cluster content consists of related articles that link to the pillar post, whereas the pillar post serves as the primary hub or pillar for a specific theme or subject. In cluster content, the pillar post provides context and foundation.

  • Comprehensive In-Depth Post: A pillar post is a lengthy and informative article that covers a broad topic within your niche. It establishes you as an authority in your field and gives visitors a reason to stay on your site.
  • Pillar Post is Stable Pillar posts are crucial for a stable blog or website. They are authoritative resources on a specific topic, showcasing your expertise and credibility and attracting worldwide visitors.
  • Tends to be Longer Post: These long-form posts provide all-encompassing knowledge on a topic, leaving no stone unturned. They are evergreen, remaining relevant over time by addressing fundamental industry questions or issues.
  • Through Research: You want to ensure that you have accurate information and credible sources backing up your claims. This builds trust with your audience and establishes you as an authority in your niche.

Now that we've covered what a pillar post is, let's move on to why we should start our blogging journey by creating one!

Why All Bloggers Should Start With a Pillar Post

Starting a blog can be exciting but overwhelming, especially for new and seasoned bloggers. With so much information, it's easy to feel lost and need help figuring out where to begin.

That's why starting with a pillar post is highly recommended. But why should we bloggers specifically focus on creating a pillar post?

  1. Define the Scope of Your Blog. A pillar post is a comprehensive topic central to your blog, setting the foundation for future topic cluster content.
  2. Identifies Topics: Pillar posts can help find future blog topics by exploring related subjects. This will help with content planning and keep your blog updated with fresh ideas.
  3. Generate Ideas: Researching and writing a comprehensive article often leads to subtopics that can become potential blog posts. This helps with content planning and keeps your blog updated with new content.
  4. Establish Authority and Expertise: Pillar posts are longer than regular blogs, often 2,000-5,000 words. They showcase expertise and build trust with your audience.
  5. Evergreen Content: Pillar posts, or evergreen content, stay relevant for a long time, unlike other blog posts. They provide timeless information to attract new readers and keep your blog relevant.
  6. Attracts High-Quality Traffic: Great content attracts targeted traffic that is more likely to engage with your blog and become loyal followers or customers.
  7. Possible to Attract Backlinks: Backlinks are links from other websites to yours that improve your SEO. Pillar posts attract more backlinks because they provide valuable information, establishing your blog as trustworthy.

Bloggers need to have a pillar post because it establishes authority and expertise, drives traffic, provides evergreen content, helps with content planning, attracts backlinks, and allows content to be repurposed if they want.

Final Thoughts

Starting a blog can be overwhelming for all bloggers. One practical approach is to create a pillar post - comprehensive content covering a specific topic within your niche. It serves as the foundation of your blog and is a valuable resource for readers and search engines. When choosing a topic for your pillar post, it's essential to consider its relevance to your target audience. Look for popular subjects within your niche that provide valuable insights or solutions to common problems. Conduct thorough research to ensure you offer unique perspectives or information not readily available elsewhere.

Excellent description of a pillar post here Brenda and how important they can be!

I always like to have one pillar post for each topic cluster I cover, but... they are usually much longer than 3000 - 5000 words though!

Great for internal linking though as you say!

Much appreciated my friend and enjoy a fabulous rest of your week! :-)

Thanks Brenda, I have not written one but will start to work on it. Kind of like a capstone to the building you are building - holds everything together. Looking forward to the next post :)Dusty

Dusty, yes it's like a “capstone” building. I like that comparison. Yes it's under one topic. Each topic starts with a pillar post then topic clusters will be built to expand the pillar post. More information about that will be released in today’s post.

I did some research on it with the link you gave @JeffreyBrown.
This is really a great concept.

Yes that website provides great information. I agree. That came from my research. 😀

🤔 I wonder if a Pillar post would work on my book promo site, Brenda?

Jeff

A pillar post would be made off of a topic that would formulate 20 topic clusters surrounding that pillar post.

I don't know how that would work with your book promotion site, as these are for blog posts for SEO purposes.

See the screenshot example from the HubSpot website.

Thanks for this, Brenda! I will see how this might be worked in. My mind is whirring!

Jeff

Have a great Tuesday.

I will, Brenda, and you do the same!

Thanks for sharing, Brenda. I will keep this in mind as I build my new site.

Hi Stanley, sure, you are welcome. Yes, pillar post, then build off of a topic cluster. More coming tomorrow.
